ALrite there guys, long time no see.

As the title says, are there any tweak or anything (preferably simple) that can improve my internet, i still play css alot so anything that would improve that performance would be great. My internet is just a simple BT broadband box and only goes to my comp

thanks in advance:wavey:

Edit: the internet goes through a router i think it is, then distributed, but im the only comp connected atm.

Hey Oxo, long time no see!!

As for optimising, I take it you want a lower latency rather than a higher speed?

If so then the first thing you want to do is contact BT and ask if interleaving is enabled, if so get it disabled and this will drop your ping a fair bit.

:yumyum: elo mate

im ringing Bt tonight so il enquire about that thanks, would that effect my internet speed as it is now tho? because i dont want to have lower ping but slow net and no hit reg etc, reg > latency for css

Change ISP? lol

Can you look in your router config page for "line stats" or similiar? We could do with your line attenuation and noise margin! :)

It may be that you need interleaving enabled in order to keep a stable connection (especially on max) else you may ask them to drop your sync speed in an exchange for interleaving off. So line stats are needed.

Also most of BT routers are crap (the ones they supply). The one they give to businesses are good for those with crap line stats as they hold sync solid. Its a 2wire 2700hgv if you are interested.

There are also tools such as that one on dslguide iirc

where would i find the router config, my bro sent up the internet. With the interleaving and sync'ing is this something a typical BT call centre person would understand, or would they just say no and put the phone down lol.

Unless you have a very unstable line then interleaving wont affect your speed at all, another thing you can do to increase speed is remove all the uncessory loops from your BT box.

Follow this simple guide and your speed should increase a fair bit, mine went from 6mb to 7.5mb:

Let us know mate.
