Prize time :O

beginners luck :) I did just watch a YT video of a guy doing the same exact process, so i at least know i done exactly what he did lol

Just ordered a small 60mm fan for it i guess i could have gone 40mm but i don't like wasps lol was cheap only £3 off amazon and they gave me a 30 day trial of prime so nice that every time i order something they give me trails :D

I'm not 100 % sure how i will get it to sit with the card but i'll find a way maybe some zipties :D as i have a few left that are long, so it'll at least have some direct cooling on it.

Found the culprit to my boot issues and not the first time such an app has done it.

Antivirus!

Blue screen on login

avast, comodo, kaspersky, bit defender all to blame for this at various times.

I thought it was the sas card overheating, but it's cooled now, then i sfc/scannow it fixed things i thought it was that but then tonight for most of the night i couldn't login after hdd installs. one drive DOA but removed and same issues.

Login to safeboot instant so i disabled some start up items, same issues.

So then i went safeboot and uninstalled bit defender and instant boot no issues.

Going to just run windows defender for the time being i sure hope that is the last of my boot issues as i'm running out of ideas i'd already disabled all usb bar key mouse and now it's up and running without issue i'm leaving it well alone.

not sure why i've had these annoying issues with antivirus but it seems common as all the ones i've used have eventually done it, add to that a scan with all the normal things says it's clean so maybe they just dont like me using these products without paying them and disable free users idk but it's been a really annoying evening lol

The only one I trust in that list is Avast. The rest are just bloatware to me. Althought I dont even use Avast anymore.

Storage complete, took longer than i wanted to switch in the 2x2tb nvme drives as those stupid tiny screws, well one of the screws fell into the PSU so I had to take that out and shake it out of it, took ages dam thing but better than my PSU going bang, connected it all up and thankfully no issues.

The Ugreen enclosures I was surprised by they are really well made and very solid simple to fit and use as jensun would say it just works, came with everything you need and even came with a very decent thermal pad, just a very good product.

Have another external 2tb drive it's used for the TV K:drive

So now I'll focus on saving and it'll either be a switch 2 or 7900XTX next spring :)

Are they all individual drives, or large drives split down in to partitions?

I am nervous just looking at image if they are all individual drives, I mean I don't do backups on my OS I just reinstall Windows when needed as it's 5 minutes to install 20 minutes to get the settings sorted and drivers installed, then another 20 minutes to pull the games from the server.

I think you might benefit from a NAS with Truenas on it and an ISCSI Share for all you games etc, as at least that I think would give you some ability to lose a drive and not lose the data.

Losing data is one of the reasons I built my servers, although I did recently lose 30GB of data because I forgot to copy it to the server :(

They are all separate drives, the thing is I have gigabit so if a drive fails the data can be put on a new drive within a short time even if it's a few tb's doesn't take long.

The only real data that i want to be safer is certain things that are harder to gain back but I'll most likely just shift things around and have the 4tb external as a back up on that data.

I know there are better options for these things, but while it may seem a mess it's organised enough that i know where everything is :)

Still something to think about in time maybe more so next board upgrade, but for now it's fine i at least have filled out the space over the last 6 months and outside of a nas or more externals this is how it sits.

thing is when i looked at nas setups they are horrific prices so if i was going to do something like that i'd do a DIY version with some kind of storage rack and connection, but like all things it costs and this for general game storage is fine it's really only about 4tb of that data i'm concerned over, the main issue with so many games is if i ever need to fully reinstall windows as sure some things are simple but other system things are a time consuming nightmare true enough outside of games there is a large amount of applications installed and doing that alone takes hours.

Still I'm getting older now 45 so it'll not be a concern for long with the way i've lived my life lol

I'm starting to heavily getting into the whole NAS/Home server space myself, for this reason amongst others. May I ask what caused you to loose your data though?...

I was moving a pc from 1 case to another, as I needed to move the pc and the first case was not viable for that new location.

The PC had 2 mechanical 3TB WD Reds which were used for storing Music and Music Videos before uploading them to YouTube, amongst other things stored on them.

The new case only has space for 1 HDD and 1 Sata Drive which is fine as I intended to use an NVME Drive and 1TB Sata drive with the 2 Mechanical Drives in Caddies initially.

Built the system up, found that the NVME was not detected by the board because apparently it's not on the list of "Allowed Drives" for Asrock.

Ended up putting a 120Gb 2.5" SSD in, in order to install Windows, got it all up and running and plugged in the first Mechanical drive in the USB caddie and the drive was empty, so tried the 2nd and that was empty as well.

Pulled both drives and put them directly on the Motherboard and still completely empty.

Installed some data recovery software several in fact and they all showed the drives were completely empty with nothing to recover.

I have no idea how, but both 3TB drives were wiped clean super clean, so data lost but I can get it back easily enough, just need re-rip the discs and run a script, then figure out what settings I used in the video software for the videos as I also lost the image with the settings on.
