Wub Wub, time for something different.

Here dude, for an idea.

That is where it will live. The carpet at my flat is really expensive stuff and super thick. It also has really thick underlay.

The stereo stand and the speakers out wide are all on spikes.

oDrhbXE.jpg

The lower speakers need to be on spikes too really. I need to get some and drill the stands.

After four days in bed with IBS and the weather being as bad as my ass I finally got the last face done.

Next up - tonnes of sanding.

You don't have a choice. At some point the grain will have to go the other way from a face.

As it sits? it goes up the front, across the top and down the back. But no matter which way you do it some faces will go the other way. It's particularly noticeable on something so grained. Other woods are much more subtle.

Basically the front, sides and back all go the same way. Up/down. You then get a choice on the top, but I wanted it to match the front rather than the sides as it's the bit you see most.

Damn dude, I feel you on that one... Sometimes it feels like you've done cactuses.

It was easier when I was younger. Like yeah, I would have really bad toilet visits but I would be able to pretty much go about my day. Now? it wipes me out. I feel off balance and dizzy.

Today after drinking electrolytes for two days I felt a bit better. So I embarked on a two hour sanding spree and put down the first coat of finish.

Which will need to dry, then be sanded again.

TBH I don't know what was worse. Two hours of arm killing hand sanding or cleaning the bastud up for clear.

Second coat down and dry. No more patchy look.

It needs sanding now. I also need to repaint the bottom in places and the entrance to the port. Which is no problem, but it's now Easter and family are coming in the morning. So I had to wrap it up for now.

Happy though. I have ordered some of the densest wadding from Ebay. 8oz

I also ordrered a mill 10mm bit to do the feet a few days back and that came today. If I try and drill a 10mm hole (depth and width) into MDF a normal bit would grab and go all the way through. So I need to practice on some spare MDF and get the technique down.

Really? That's interesting, that it gets you to the point of feeling of balance and dizzy, I haven't gotten to that point though (yet). Just sometimes it feels like I'm doing razerblades in the toilet or that an sandpaper was done, not a pleasant feeling either way. Kinda annoying having to sometimes think about your day due to IBS.

I used to get that. It felt like I was being stabbed in the butt hole. Very painful :/

I am nearly 50 now, and it seems it all changed at some point in my early 40s.

Don't get old :D

Well it seems like the future isn't too bright for me then

Just stay fit dude. Sadly for me because of all of the meds I take for my brain I have been unable to do so because of side effects. In fact, I am 99% sure that this has been brought on by my new sleep pills. I tend not to look at the side effects, as if I did I would take nothing, but I still feel awful. Over two weeks of feeling dizzy and nauseous with terrible gas and etc.

I will go back to the doc on Weds and get them changed.

I did this on Friday? I don't even remember. I felt a little better, then yesterday was back to square one.

I was terrified of going through the MDF so I did it two ways. The mill bit I bought is totally flat, so it would have never gone in alone. So I bought a 10mm Bradpoint bit (with a 2mm point on)

EFrDliZ.jpg

And these.

FWeTQKF.jpg

Problem with wood and plastic is as soon as the bit bites the wood it pulls itself in. Which would have meant I would have gone through the sheet very quickly and made holes I did not want into the cabinet. So I set the bradpoint at 3mm with the 2mm point, drilled those in and then switched to the mill bit with an 11mm depth and no blow through.

It should have been sanded, varnished and the black all repainted by now but I feel so off kilter that I daren't pick it up. Because I know I would drop it.

Right, I am back ! Turns out it was a combo of IBS and the pills I had switched to. I didn't pay it a lot of mind as they are "just" sleeping pills. Turns out I was wrong. That said if I read the bloody side effects I would take nothing.

Feeling considerably better now, and am back. The good thing is it allowed the PU to harden nicely, so I will wet sand out the entire cabinet next and put on the final coats. Then to repaint the bottom and pack it for a removal company to move.

Whilst I was home I rewired the amp with decent cable, as well as running it through the anti static thing and securing it all down with hot glue.

I also did a bit of reconnaissance whilst at home, and realised that my coffee table lives quite a hard life. It has vaping liquid spills to deal with, as well as coffee stains and etc. The main issue though is that it sits under a window and crap falls in, given I am in the roof. I do not want to have to refinish the cabinet at all as the veneer is thin. So I decided to put something on top when it's done to protect it.

I had a few ideas about how to do this, but given the very dark nature of the box I wanted something suitable. I was going to just order a pre cut pre polished sheet of clear acrylic and put that on top, but that would be really expensive and acrylic also scratches and wears.

So, I decided on leather. It wont cover the whole top and does not need to. Half of the woofer will be below the window line so no crap can fall on it too. Plus I won't put anything there as it will be too far away to grab lol.

It's ox blood which is very British. Those Chesterfields are usually covered in it. The offcut is pretty large, so I will mark out a rectangle to fit and then cut it using pinking shears.

I50hAyX.jpg

Which will give it a nice look. I can then use the left overs to make coasters and etc.

Yeah it adds more work etc but this is a forever sub. Given I have a spare woofer? yeah, I can't see me ever needing another one.

Oh and the spacers for the grille arrived too, so I can pre drill those out once it's sanded too :)

I decided to wet sand the entire cabinet. God that was a killer. It looks great though, very smooth. I also pre drilled and pre fab fitted the protection bars. That looked great too, but obviously it had to come back off for me to work on it.

I have done a lot of edge blending with an artist brush and satin black. The edges now look really good.

I should be able to start putting on more PU tomorrow, so by Sunday that side of things should be finished. I then need to repaint the entry to the port in black and the bottom, but they can be done at the same time.

Man that was tiring lol. Any way, just needs a good clean and tack before I put down the next penultimate coat of clear. The leather arrived, its lovely. I also ordered this.

htYTMin.jpg

As it goes really well with the rustic look I am aiming for.

Started working with the leather. Hardest part was getting it squared and learning how to cut it. Turned into a bit of an ordeal, but it's there. I've cut two coasters also, and have loads of spare. I want to test the pinking shears on scrap first, as it is really thick.

Final coat of PU is down. I will let it harden fully now before tackling the last black work.

As you can see the port is absolutely filthy. So I need to make a tool that I can wrap a cloth around and clean it out properly. I do not want to even think about running a sub in there until it's sparkling. I decorated my room with dust quite a few times in the past.

The leather work is done also.

The 12th of never lol.

Had I known I would have saved up and paid the £1500 lol. Even though I will come in at about a third of that? the amount of peeing around is something I never want to do again.

That said, it was always a forever sub, so it is worth it (I guess). I have a spare driver too, so yeah should do me forever.

Projects big or small are always good for a time thou and once finished rewarding.

My projects are straight forward easy to do but time consuming atm i just want the bios fit a new drive it'll be a little bit of fun then normality for a while.

The sub box has come a ways along thou and you've made effort on it so i think worth doing :)

My next is the fractal design define 7xl transfer my parts enjoy it as is and at a later date get a sas card and fill it with 10 more 3tb drives as the whole cost works out £800 cheaper only later issue is if i need to lift the PC it'll be beastly heavy LUL
