Wub Wub, time for something different.

Right. Paint has dried. Not perfect, but it's the bottom.

The 1m speaker wire I ordered has arrived.

The stuff on the amp is trash. What I did next was take that offcut board that has been spattered in paint and filler etc and vacuumed it off, then fitted 3m felt pads to it (9 bits) which has allowed me to flip it over so it spins around on the floor. Ideal for doing the veneer.

Waiting for the amp. Should be here later.

When it goes wrong, part 2.

"Mum, can you just stop talking whilst I measure and cut the amp in?"

Too much to ask.

I had to cut a patch, put three screws through it into the back after putting a piece inside to hold it in place whilst I did so, then put glue on.

Once that is dry (a day or two) I will have to fill it, and do a whole crap load more sanding.

Of course it has made a mess, so that means even more sanding etc.

Oh great joy.

Back on track.

I was going to brace it from behind, but then I realised the amp plate is 4mm alu, and will add more than enough bracing. Not that it needs it, but yeah will do the job nicely.

Front done. That was a nightmare. Easily the hardest thing I have had to do yet.

Note, the edges are totally not straight. You trim them when it has totally set, and you sand them. Especially the ones going against the grain.

It turns out that sanding the edges flush and smooth is the easiest part so far. It's also enormously satisfying.

Deffo chose the right finish. It looks pure evil.

And the data sheet for the legs. The machines should actually be turning now.

Age and wisdom, mate.

Due to the goings on the cabinet is filled with dust and crap. If I put the sub in and give it some now? I will be cleaning it up for years to come.

As you can tell, young and stupid V1 of me would have done just that. Near on 50 year old V2 is a lot wiser.

I am going home today, back to my place. Going to have a week off. Whilst the veneer weighs nearly nothing continually flipping that cabinet around and running it in and outside has damn near killed me.

I need to replace the wire on the amp (its crap) so I have to remove the board to solder in what I got. I also need to fit the wall plates to carry it across the room through the crawl space etc etc.

When I get back next week I will finish the veneer. Then give it a ruddy good clean. I won't be able to fully test it in the cabinet until it's back home with me in a couple more weeks at least.

Remember, anything done right takes a long time. Rush at haste repent at leisure. I am never doing this again so I want it done right.

OK. So I came home for a rest. Yeah, right. How's about some crawling through filthy crawl spaces?

And at the other end.

Just getting ready to put the liquid electrical tape all over that connector. Then once it sets I can fit the face plate and job done.

Mess is a pain.

Made up the connecting cable from the wall to the sub itself.

And then sat and stared at the pics of my legs being machined.

Thanks dude !

Sadly the lathe has broken lol. Should be fixed soon.

I am meeting up with my friend (who is doing it) next Sunday. So hopefully he can bring them down with him.

Either way work will resume on Weds. Should be veneered by the weekend, providing the weather is kind. I will only say this once, don't ever use that glue indoors lol. Talking of which I have now ordered enough of that, and some spreaders. It's really not fun to work with, but is very good at sticking things.

I haven't ditched it. Weather has been conspiring against me. Last night I got so fed up of it I decided to open the back doors and do the top in here.

I made but one error. I should have masked the veneer already on there to stop the glue getting into the grain. I have gotten 99% of that off, but fear going through the veneer if I continue. So, I am just going to have to accept it.

The legs are done and here, with the inserts for the wood itself. I will get pics of those later. Might bash out a side tonight, we'll see.

I dont think your floor will thank you :D

Those pointy ends with a bass vibration might leave some detrimental marks, or even have your sub skating across your floor surely?
