Help with New PC Build Component

Really?? I have G Skill RaipjawsX RAM - I will try with the fan above the ram (per your picture) now and get back to you...

It fits with the fan above the RAM slots PERFECT! Good call SieB! There is about 0.5cm gap between the top of the RAM and the start of the fan.

Just looking at some videos opn how much of the Noctua paste to apply....

If I use the U.L.N.A connector on the Noctua, will the CPU fare any less cooler? Also, should I use the Y splitter and put both fans into 1 power connector ot use CPU_FAN and ADDITIONAL_CPU_FAN on my motherboard?

If you use the U.L.N.A connectors it will give slightly higher temps but it's only about 3-4 *c but the extra silence is worth the sacrifice of a few *c.

You can use the the Y-spliter to connect both fans to one fan header if you want but I don't think you can use the U.L.N.A connectors if you do, it says something in the instruction manual about it but i can't remember what it says.

Just powered up using the U.L.N.A and MY GOD that is quiet! But I it looks like the fans may be rotating slightly slower than without the U.L.N.A. I think I'll live with the noise for the sake of possibly better O/C potential...

Drives are in, board is in - just gotta screw it all together and tidy up before I attached a KVM!

There is a noticeable difference in noise with them on and with them off but I don't use them myself I use fan profiles through the Asus AI suite for my motherboard. Also, the 3-4 *c difference won't affect overclock potential, it's up to you though but there is a noticeable difference in noise.

Has anyone else had trouble getting the PCI Express power cable from the power supply (bottom of the case) to the EATX connector (top left of the motherboard)? It stretches just enough to go from the power supply, over the PCI-E slots and into the EATX connector!

People usually pass the cable behind the motherboard, but you have already mounted the motherboard, so unless you want to take out the motherboard, you will have to leave it like that. You can always buy extensions to make life easier though.

Another issue!

The EATX connector right at the top of the case/board has 8 pins. The power supply comes with 6 pins and an additional 2 pins. However, whilst the 6 pins fit the motherboard fine, the remaining 2 pins will NOT fit in any configuration because 1 ping is square and the other has a round ridge. OK to use just the 6 pins for the I7 2600k?

I think you might just be putting it on upside down. There should be a tab on the connection. Make sure that the lock thing on the cable goes over the tab. All 8-pins should be inside the connection before you power ON.

Negative - No chance I can get all 8 on.

I have this power supply: http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=4202 and am trying to get the PCIE-6+2 pin cable to go from the PSU to the 12v EATX port at the top of the board.

My PSU PCIE EATX 12V Cable looks like the one of the left of this image: http://www.zalman.com/images/productinfo/eng/ZM850-HP_img3.jpg . 2 square top right and 1 square bottom left. The rest are curved.

However, my P8Z68 does not match this confiuragtion as it has 4 sqaure and 4 round - like this: http://superuser.com/questions/307579/should-i-connect-two-4-pin-eatx12v-power-plugs

Any ideas? Shall I force it in?

Don't force it in. If you are using the correct cable, then it should go in easily. Can you take a picture of the motherboard connection?

Is this your motherboard?

EDIT: It doesn't matter if you have the Pro or regular version, the connection will be the same. I also looked at the 8-pin connector you showed me and it should fit.
