Ok guys, Did I overpay, or do a good job?

I agree, see how it goes for the 1st year. Keep an eye out for a bargain - Here, special offers or Ebay!

What people are trying to say is; most of your components are next gen where are the graphics card is last gen and if you want to game, you don't want the graphics card to be out of date! The core of your system should be able to run the up and coming games, but without a DX10 card there is not much point...

Ok, I appreciate that but is there anyway I could send the graphics card back, and get a nextgen one for similar price.

It all comes down to price and how long itll last for me...

No next gen cards for that price unless you fancy a 8600GT you looking at atleast a £180 for one like a 8800GTS that will last you a while longer.

8600's won't run dx10, if they do it will be badly.

If you don't have vista then don't worry as you can't play dx10 on XP. For the forseeable future, games with be backward compatible - meaning you will be able to play them in dx9 if you don't have dx10 capability.

There are reviews of 8600's on the site, read them to see how they fair.

Games wise, Half Life 2 episode one is still awesome, stalker, rainbow vegas... Again, read some reviews :)

I am running vista myself. TBH I cant see it being worthwhile for me to upgrade the graphics card. Would you guys agree maybe it isnt the best but it does the job very well at least for the moment.

I also read in a magazine that ID software (DOOM etc) are not planning to use DX10 in their 2008 releases. Basically I get the impression from some places my GPU will last at least 2-3 years, but the concencous here is that it wont. Unsure what to do.. any backed up further reassurance for either case would be great.

No one is saying replace your graphics card now! Ultimately, you are the one to judge if you need a new card or not. See how your current card runs games and you should be happy with it, but in the near future with DX10 games you might want a piece of the gorgeous graphics offered! In that case you judge what money you have to burn and then you might want to look at a 2nd hand 8800GTS or something, then sell your X1950...

Agrees with Jiff, see how it fares against the newer games.. see if you can stick with it.. its all about personal preference.. i prefer all my games to run on pretty much highest settings.. whereas some people can hack it on medium/low.. its all about how YOU feel about the way the game looks.
