Bikes 2017 and a build log for my Quadangle.

Upgrades.

Carbon bars, skid stain free saddle (carbon body)

APsDw0x.jpg

Nc7qX2l.jpg

And a orange stem collar.

oebWcnq.jpg

I also got a torque wrench. Cost a packet, but I am tired of stripping and snapping stuff (I'm a clumsy ). Just need to put the grips back on, air up the tyres and it's time to fly.

OK. I have now had the bike 5 years. Time for a massive overhaul.

Wheels - gone. They weighed a ton, but I am now confident in the bike and me not destroying nice parts. HED carbon tri spoke on the rear, Campagnolo Calima on the front.

Fork - gone. Steel, heavy, too straight. Replaced with Bontrager carbon.

Tyres - gone. No need in having gravel tyres if you don't ride on gravel or off road, which I never did.

Stem - gone. It needed shims, so I replaced it with a 22.2 stem.

Brakes - gone. Campagnolo TT on the front, Potenza on the rear.

Pedals - gone. Too big for this bike, kept hitting the front wheel with my foot.

Grips - gone. Had gone manky after 5 years of riding.

Brake levers - gone. Replaced with Brick Lane Bikes CNC. Replaced white cables with Jagwire orange set.

Got a bottle cage and bottle. That is going as soon as I get a rivnut gun and can fit a carbon one.

Just waiting on this.

Wahey.

So I got what I consider to be the last year out of the orange bike. I drilled some holes for a bottle cage and it didn't go so well, and the paint is pretty trashy. Hard to see in the pics, but a lot missing.

Long story short I bought a "cheap" Ti frame and rebuilt it all.

The clear coat on the rear wheel started ing me off though. It went cloudy at the top of the spokes, and whilst it looked OK on the other bike ? not so much on your dream build.

Most of the problem is the rattle can paints. So I got some with real 2k clear coat.

DQdhXUi.jpg

And then set to work.

VoeI7Ix.jpg

The task was to flatten off the matt clear coat ready for new.

u0zfceO.jpg

And then the extremely time consuming and fiddly task of masking up the tyre so I don't have to remove it (it glues to the rim, and is a pain to change).

I9cTYSe.jpg

More masking.

CEDwjhs.jpg

And then the FX layer. Chromacoat.

Before several coats of 2k clear.

Then we redo all of the decals. Including the huge rim decals.

The spoke ones are completed too. I then spent an ungodly amount of money on a chain tensioner as I wasn't happy with the single wheel one.

And a top tube leather cover from BLB.

Watching that and got the Benny hill music going in my head, as to the question the bike in that is probably a lot heavier than the one AA building just need to see if his skill is upto Benny hills :D

hes using cleat pedals so it allows much easier lifting on heavy bikes. If I can do it on an MTB design to go downhill. its doable on that bike for sure.

I'm not. They are Nukeproof Urchin kids pedals. I used full sized but my feet hit the front tyre.

I don't like clip ins or toe straps. It's an autism thing. I always found it really scary.

BTW funny story on the front wheel. I was looking for a carbon one for about three years. To go with the rear one I got stupid cheap. Any way, the RRP for that wheel is about a thousand pounds. Problem is the cycle industry is on its ass. He had it up for £180 opening bid plus £19 shipping. We messaged back and forth and I offered him £250 plus postage. He says sure, he will accept that and will send me a seller offer.

I then sat at the PC for nearly four hours. He ghosted me. Any way, he gambled. And lost :D

Greed is a strange beast. Oh well. It shipped today, so I bought a bag for it.

Those are stupid handy if you are going on vacation or what not, or even just storing the bike for the winter.

The 80s BMX will be around 25lb.

That bike I just built weighs 17.2. Technology is a fine thing :D

never had one back then I was working and had an aluminium light wieght racer for going to work

Aye that is basically what this is, but with BMX parts on. I can't use drop bars due to back problems and nor would I want to. I also suck balls at setting up gears, so one will do :D

Stuff in. Single speed tensioner.

Spare spokes, spoke tool, brake pads (DT Swiss for carbon rim) and a keyring. Noice :D

And, the main event.

E3uzIw1.jpg

600g of carbon sex. I won't be using the skewer as I have a Ti one already.

It then dawned on me I had an issue. None of my tubes are going to work. Oh well, gave me a chance to shave off 100 grams and get a spare to boot.

I rode out into the wind. Wasn't fun. Took breather then rode back. With the wind behind you it is a total weapon lol.

Here we go again ! lol.

It all started when I finished the Titanium bike and a friend asked "Where do you get these frames from?"

I then looked on Ebay. Bad idea.

1PitsOs.jpg

It's a trap, don't do it ! :D

What it is is a 2012 Pinarello Treviso. For £45. It is new, and unpainted. Basically these bikes were so expensive they would send them out like that to be painted in custom or team colours. Any way I bought it. It would have looked like this.

M4vw9Vq.jpg

Now before you think I am crazy (Hint, I am) there is a reason for this. Gears. I want gears.

I also wanted it to be cheap, so I went to Ali Express.

This was £5
