Warning: This is a long one, feel free to skip through it if you wish.

What's going on, people? This is my first actual thread post on this forum, I believe. I don't come on here very often at all but I wanted to share this. I first began this PC adventure about 6 years ago when I spent 350AUD and got a very basic gaming PC with a Phenom II X4 840 and a GT240 - which handled Battlefield surprisingly well, albeit at low settings.

Fast forward and I've got a reference 290 and a G3258 which is keeping my 290 from really rearing its head and chugging out frames. So I bought a 4790K and got a Phanteks C-style cooler as a gift. Then I looked at AIOs. I wanted expandability and reliability with that expansion, so I went with the H220-X. The problem now was that my reference 290 was hot and loud. So I scoured r/hardwareswap as well as eBay and Performance-PCs and got a Swiftech block, Swiftech MCP 655-B, Swiftech 240mm rad, Swiftech MCRes Micro (notice a pattern?) plus the Bitspower compressions and Mayhem's tubing. I went with this tubing because it was 1/2 the price of Primochill tubing. And it's working great. For fluid, I have distilled mixed with Liquid Utopia which does its job.

When I got the H220-X, I was told, it won't work in the R4 unless you drill holes. When I looked into front mounting, people told me that there I couldn't fit anything except a bayres or built-in res because of the tight space. People said you couldn't run a dual loop in the R4.

Well. I proved those b**ches wrong. I did it all. And this was my first time liquid cooling. There were bumps in the road but I did it and it gave me a huge feeling of gratification - mainly just because I thought I would break everything.

Ironically, I now want to get an Enthoo Pro so that I can shove in a 360mm rad, but that's not the point! I've also considered combining the loops to possibly give better CPU temps as the front rad does dump a lot of hot air inside the case. I did try the rear fan on intake, but the hot air just ended up filling the case and caused problems.

PICTURE TIME!! All of these were shot on my OnePlus Two and I wasn't being very steady. If there is enough demand, I can take some more with better lighting, etc. I am, however, limited to the OP2.

Thanks for checking this out! See you when I get the 360 ;)

Just realized I didn't include monitors in spec list. I have the LG 24GM77 and HP w185 on a Rosewill arm

Very nice build! I used to have an H240-X in a R4, but I had to drill holes in the front mount.

That was really the only reason I didn't go with the H240-X. I thought potential future owners of my R4 might not like that I had done that, for one reason or another.

Not a bad effort dude, will you evolve this any more? Any plans?

It's the man TTL himself! Thanks a lot! Yes, I am considering either moving this all into either a Define S or Enthoo Pro so that I can add in a 360mm radiator and have easier access to everything in general, while actually having drives mounted somewhere.

If I do stay in the R4, I may tie the two loops together. Where the GPU goes to the radiator, I would instead go to the CPU and then through the rad/pump/res, and then to the front rad.

Very nice build fella, as for the define S I can confirm it is a Modder's delight and epic for water cooling space, as a stock case it's not perfect but with some tweeks and modding is a no brainer. I've recently been looking at the Thermaltake suppressor F31 as I'd love to put them side by side, but that's just personal curiosity.

Thanks! What is it about the Define S that you would fix?

Structural rigidity at the front, due to the case not having the usual fixed drive cages hdd or optical it feels flimsy especially with the side panel removed.

Yeah, but I feel like with a 240mm in the front and 360 on top, that wouldn't be as apparent. I'm leaning more towards the Enthoo Pro at the moment because I love the front design, but the Define S is really extremely compelling.

Don't get me wrong the define S is a stonking case, it's rock solid once you get your build in. As a stock case with say just air cooling it would be a flimsy rig, it really needs a touch more structural reinforcing to be perfect, that said it is intended to be a water cooling chassis with huge rad support and aesthetically it would be my choice over the enthoo.

Yeah, can't argue with the pricing either, and actually having a spot to mount all my drives as opposed to stuffing them in the ODD bays. You may have swayed me, good sir. I'll sleep on it for a bit because it's going to end up costing me around 200USD for the case and radiator.

After looking online some more, I am pushed back towards the Enthoo Pro. It is a little bit taller which means I can easily get to the RAM without having my hand all stuck in there. I don't have either product on hand so I cannot verify my claims, but it looks like there is quite a bit of overhang still with the Define S that the Enthoo Pro doesn't have. I'd like to know your thoughts as the main reason I want to move from the R4 is for more space

If you click my signature it'll take you to my build log, I have the kelvin s24 and dominator platinum's in my build the clearance is real good. Even with a slightly thicker rad it would be a good enough distance.

I looked it over before this occurred to me but looking at it now, I have no worries. Your mod was absolutely gorgeous. Did you use neoprene because of its - possibly ever so slight - noise dampening?

I've been considering making/getting some sort of PSU shroud. Something like a small box that's closed on the wiring end of the power supply that extends to about the point where the MB tray bends.

I appreciate your input, o wond'rous mod!

Initially it was to be a black velvet type of fabric, but I saw that one and just ran with it it looks epic in real light but it's a pain to keep clean. Also with the define S being so spacious it was a breeze to mod inside. I'm no wondrous modder though, more of an amateur in reality that accolade goes to the other guys on this forum they are really inspiring but thanks for the compliment.

I meant forum mod #RIP. I have no tools so if I mod, I'm going to need outside assistance, which could be good or bad. I saw that you used particleboard type material, I'm not sure what to go with myself. I could do that or maybe get some acrylic pieces cut and glue/paint them

Arh I see  Just a very privileged regular really, when it comes to materials I think outside the box but most will use machined stuff aluminium, acrylic ect ect.

When I started modding cases I used to use self adhesive vinyl and 3 - 5mm foam board as it was simple cheap and I have history with model making, since then I've moved on and tried many materials. Always remember shop around for materials eBay has pretty much been my goto place for stuff, and trial stuff you'll be surprised what alternatives you'll discover. As for tools all any Modder really needs is a rotary tool i.e a dremel if you can't stretch to one there are loads of good alternatives like the xenta that's available from Ebuyer which I'm currently using and was only £15.

Yeah, the only problem is I'll be off to college in August which means no tools! There should be some huge and awesome CNC mills that I have access to as an engineering student, so that would be fantastic. I can still get the rest done, though!

Side note: Do you know anywhere that I can get used but still good radiators? I'm in the US so my only option right now is buying new from Performance-PCs. They're quite good, but I'm a scavenger with expensive ideas.

Check out my Fractal Solo build. I have a 360 in the front and a 240 in the top of the Define S. Plenty of room in the case with loads of potential for any mods you could want to do.

These images are a general outline of how I plan to run the loop as well as fittings I have + ones I need to buy.
