hwbot [ALL] Discussion thread

Ye and that was on LN2 with two ATI cards. This is with the stock cooler on the GFX and the Q6600 on air @ 3.6GHz so I can't push the cards that high.

3DMark06 just doesn't take full advantage of the Tri SLI

Mr. Smith gotta say, nice score :D

Single card beats tri-sli, kinda funny to see!

Even if it is sneakily 2 on 1 :)

Will hopefully post my new benches in the next few days... atm looking at hopefully a bit above 17k points with my single 8800GT so that would be cool.. atm it runs at 770core and 1770shader, havent OC'd gpu memory though and I have an ace up my sleeve..

Cheers Hatman :D

Just added a quick 3dm05 score too... Still no idea how high this card will clock tbh, I'm on it though ;)

mmm theres a pretty small amount of benches for 3dmark05...

Infact theres 3..

Will enjoy seeing how high the card can clock :D

Nice work lads, keep the results coming.

Right, my 3dm03 result got us some serious points. Matts beats mine by a fair margin so when he returns from sunning himself and gets some hwbot scores in that will raise us up...

This card doesn't seem to clock all that well. I changed the cfg file in riva so I can whack the fan up to 100%, then I can use AMD GPU clock tool to OC. The highest it benched so far was in 3dm05 iirc.

I wanted to know more about 3dm03 and 05.

Are they single thread? (CPU)

If so will turning off cores and having one slightly higher clocked core be the way forward?

What is with the sound test in 03 - it looped about 4/5 times last night, I thought it was going to crash...

How do ram timings affect scores? Which ones should I be looking at.

I know a fresh install helps but not sure if i can be ar$ed! Basically, I want to know more tweaks.

Maybe a new thread in the bench team section with a load of generic tips for all the 3dmark versions with some specific ones for each below (if there are any).

From what i remember on the release tests 06 is the only one that benefits from multiple cores.

The sound test in 03 tests different bitrates (again iirc. 03 was released a long time ago...)

Ram timings do sweet fa, your prob talking 5-10 points. (in my experience, anyone like to prove me wrong please go ahead).

:wavey:

Edit: Also, i managed to break SLI yest... It just wouldn't work lol. Driver cleaner and reinstalling them fixed it.

Edit 2: sigh. Im ordering a quad next week...

Nice work Ham :):):)

What quad are you getting? iirc I got 16k in 06 with one GT and my quad a 4ghz. If you get a quad and add another GT to the mix then 17K, if you bust out the phase 18K? If you are getting a q6600 I may be persuaded to sort you out mine if I see a 45nm quad I like (don't hold me to that) :p

So, there are no tips to be had?

When using drivercleaner, particularly with nvidia stuff, u **need to delete some extra stuff from the system folder also. There are nv*.* files in there that need to go, and u would do well to find the folders inside the applications folder and delete the profiles. Mostly nvidia control panel stuff and settings.

Dunno about Ati.

**need is debateable, but I`ve had issues with wrong version numbers after not doing it.

It'll be a Q6600 enless the 45s emerge soon, and as soon as they do emerge im flogging it and getting a 45nm.

I've already got 2 GTs :p. The IN9 max + a quad may not be a good combo though, but we'll see.

Atm totally limited by cooling. Stock air on everything. It just can't handle the voltage needed for 4ghz on ma xeon, and only one of the GTs is actually mine to break :(

Ham - have you entered your results onto the hwbot website? I don't see you on that pie chart (it's been a long day but I'm sure you're not)

What kind of gas is in your phase? I could do with a phase for benching (actually, 24/7) but I want something quiet, powerful and not too expensive (£300)!

Its not on the chart as I've got 3 results submitted. Havn't done a superpi run yet.

As for phase, i use R290, as its well easy to come by.

Stop by cold_ice's shop for compressor and condenser, and under the ice for evap, mount and felx line.

That the main parts at least tube, filter, insulation etc are trival.

R290 = propane = explosive right?

Aren't there other refrigerants? Better (lower temps)/more stable (not go boom)?

It cant ignite once it in the system. It needs oxygen and a spark*.

There are others but you need a £300+ recovery machine and the bottles are a minimum of £90 for a worth while one. Plus the F gas laws will mean that soon you'll need a licence to use them.

*(i hope)

What if there was a leak? It worries me, too much to have a propane tank strapped to my hot electric box.

Thanks for the info. Might save and commission a phase from whats-his-face - LittleDevil? Cant remember!

Leak tests are common place. Charge it up with as much inert gas as possible and cover the joints in soap + water.

Only leak I've had was on the evap i made, and that was poor design on my part.

That and the valve i broke...

Just wait till i get my quad...

Im upgrading the cooling on the NB, SB and PWMs on my In9 too. All big fat copper lumps going on there. The 120mm cooling the nb and PWMs is powerful enough to chop up fingers .

There is an actual physical gap between the PWMs and their sink. How bad do you get. It was occupied by thermal pad, so for now ive made holes in the pad and filled the up with ceramiquee.

Roll on payday!
