pipex is a service provider and hosting service - you still need a copper connection, supplied by someone else
Virgin media 50meg here and its fairly awsome, any time i check im never more than than 1-2% down from my quoted speeds and before when i was on 20 meg it was never more than 1-2% down either, the download limits before throttling for virgin (non 50/100 meg packages as they have zero limits) only count for each peak times slot, so 10am-3pm ish has X limit and 4am-9pm ish has X limit, the higher packages the higher the limit/smaller the peak times window.
Full list of speeds and how much before you get throttled for a few hours can be found HERE
Oh and the upload speed of all packages is being upped area by area at the moment by a good 2-3 times that packages current ul speed.
Yeah, my UL is due to raise next month and my 100 meg is getting connected in 2 months as soon as its available in my areaeven on 50 meg im blowing through upwards of 600gb+ total usage a month no problem between my little game server machine (on 24/7 using minimum 150-180gb+ ish a month going from the low usage mb per hour readings), 2 360's (gamed on about 7-14 hours a week each), this tower and a laptop (gaming 10-15 ish hours a week each), and a netbook (used for web browsing) + the laptop/tower downloading films/music/programs/off of steam/the net ect.![]()
Got to say the the customer servervice is better than BT was when i used to be on that aswell, had a few problems here and there with the net being down for no apparent reason on both ISPs and BT allways spent upwards of 30 mins telling me to turn the modem/router off and on again till they check there end/try to reset it at there end and virgin just ask if ive tried the off/on stuff already then they just go and check to make sure the signal is being sent through properly, its been that problem 9 out of 10 times for some reason since i originaly got broadband but i guess thats just my bad luck, but it was sorted within 15 mins of picking up the phone all the times on virgin.
Server machines usage from 11-just after midnight pretty much empty.

Same time frame as above on my tower.

I should probably set it up to database every machines usage to the server as thats never off so i can get a total monthy usage easyer.
lmfao - i hate that - when the callcentre staff read off a spiel in front of them and use a problem solving app in front of them.
i cut straight to the point if i have to phone anyway regarding downage.
i tell them i am a MCM Assessor and an ex-forces signals instructor, and there is nothing they can tell me to do that i've already done![]()
i then say "fix it fast, or i want a refund for my downtime"![]()
if i get a 'muppet' on the other end, i give them huge sigh and a tut-tut and ask to speak to the floor supervisor.
they have now put this info on my records (after i told them to) - to stop other noobs talking BS to me
Whenever Ive called Idnet (on the free line) I always get someone who knows their stuff. Mind you, with a monthly contract they have to else we could all just leave![]()
The only other isp id contemplate a this point in time is zen adsl
Wow I thought I was behind in my internet with these speeds but I feel sorry for you guys

The big problem with internet access in the UK is that most phone cables are 30 if not 50 years old. It is getting better now since fiber is becoming wide spread but if your not close to a phone exchange on copper your screwed.
that's just the way it is.
Nice download speed by the way, but your upload is terrible.
I get 100KBps with Windows, but 250KBps with Linux, and around the 2MBps for both when it comes to downloading.
