PV's new pad

Well the missus and I have decided that it's time for a move. Felicity wants to be closer to her work, and so we've decided to relocate (10 mins down the road lol). The house that we've just bought is on a much larger block (just shy of 800 square metres) than the one we're in now, and we are going to extend eventually. The style of the house is called a post-war Queenslander.

We signed the contract with the owner and real estate agent yesterday, and we should be in by the end of the month. I've included some pics below, but please don't judge the house by these as they are slightly older (and they are the real estate pics). The house has been fully renovated bar the bathroom...which we plan to do as soon as we are in. Everything has been re-wired and re-plumbed; gas stove and oven; solar hot water and the kitchen itself is all stainless steel with lacquered mahogany benchtops.

Our short term plans are as follows:

* completely re-paint the inside.

* air conditioning installed

* new light fittings

* new car port

* entertainment area at the rear.

Long term plans

* raise the house and add rooms underneath

* pool and/or spa

* front balcony/party/bbq deck

Thanks mate Yeah we got it for a very good price - AUS$335,000 which is about GBP20 by comparison lol. There is also a gym straight across the rd and schools/shops are around a km away. Easy walk

Yeah the benchtops are amazing, I have never seen anything like them before. The floors are all Australian hardwood with a kind of 2 pac enamel which is really glossy, plus it protects the timber very well.

i could never live in a house made of wood personally, i'd be too scared of it blowing down, or being burnt down...

bricks is what i like..

Thanks ionicle. Brick houses still usually have timber frames, just with a brick veneer on the outside. Unless they have been built with concrete blocks of course. Brick houses burn down too. With the amount of storms this house would have seen in its lifetime I'm confident that it'll weather many more and if not there's always the insurance payout.

All the roofs are made of wood here, there pretty safe so im sure these houses are.

all the houses round my area are old victorian terraced houses, brick outer layer, brick inner layer, then plaster on the walls, using old style iron gurders for the roof's, and slates on the roof's

the only wood is in the windowcills, and things inside the house, the actual house itself is built of non-wood construction materials

No mate, pretty much all brick houses are built from a wood frame

O o this one is bricks, same age as me

Roof has wooden apexes mind, and the partitions are wood-frames under the plasterboarding.

Be a bit scarey if the load bearers were wood >.< (queue that Fawlty Towers episode, "close that door quick!" )

These days tho, they tend to wooden frame things alot more. Generally they breeze block the inner walls and brick the outside to save cash (fully bricking a house is big money).

jeez dude - for that price all we would get is a small basic bungalow, a 1 bedroom apartment (basic) or a small terraced house...altho u get scary ass spiders!

Not looking forward to the house prices in the UK, when I come out of Uni in 4/5 year's time, probably never be able to get on the property ladder Still where there's work available, maybe I won't end up in the UK after all.
