they are 600 aud now when they used to be 1k literally saw it 10 minutes ago and I was sold. too bad there goes my watercooling budget

I wonder how that 970 will compare with Sandy Bridge's best? (what will be the best SB has to offer?) I expect that SB would clock higher, and that the 970 would plow through more encoding a little faster.

SB is compelling for it's lower power usage and far less heat produced.

So 600 doesn't move me like it would have 6-8 months ago.

I as I said it used to be 1000 australian dollars and now since the 990x has come in its dropped to 600 dollars big difference

I agree that it's a big price drop, but it's not so significant to me when I compare it to what Sandy Bridge can do for far less money, producing far less heat, and using far less power. SB is in it's first iterations too, and we don't really know what's up Intel's sleeve on the SB platform. There may be fantastic things to come,.....

So,...I still believe that it's a good time to wait and see what develops.

BTW: What if Bulldozer comes along and blows the market wide open? I'm certainly not saying that will happen, but AMD has pulled a rabbit out of it's hat several times throughout the years.

Your missing the point arnt you. 1155 is for n00bs. 1366 is for those that know what a divider is and know what real overclocking is. Some of us want more performance without going down the "overclocking for retards" route and want to hang on till 2011 is released.

totally agree there multi oc'n is no challange give me fsb, multi dividers timings htt give it to me all and let me balance it out for stability and POWER

just uppin a multi and volts is no brainer.

@ ciksas currently in running a 950 after the 970 comes in that will be the last upgrade for me until 1366 is replaced plus I love a challenge and the amount of time I've put in to actually getting my clocks fully stable is incredible, I jiust love how I can say that I actually did it. And Tom

Do u want to me to bench the CPUs?

Being retired and on a budget, I don't have the option of being one of the unretarded elite Tommy.

I have to watch the money and where it goes. This is reality for some of us. They ARE getting good numbers from SB and the 970 is way friggin' expensive too.

Uh I work my butt off for all my parts *just saying*

I never said that you don't

I said that some of us just can't afford the premium that they charge for them. That doesn't make us retards.

I worked on the Space Shuttle program for years, I retired from there. I'm no retard (far from it too) and for someone who runs a site like this to take that attitude sucks.

I can understand it from both sides tbh.

Me personally i have only been into PCs for just over two years now and my first PC was 775 and a P45 mobo and a Q6600. Overclocking that was as easy as setting the FSB to 333 and CPU volts to 1.25 for a 3.0ghz OC, that's pretty retarded easy to me. When i decided to upgrade i was and am still out of work due to health issues and I didn't have much money to spend on a PC and wanted the best bang for my buck I could buy which at the time after I sold my PC and a couple of other things was a SB build for £400.

If I could have afforded a "good" 1366 build for the same price I would have but to me at the time it made more sense going with 1155. Basically I have missed out on 1366 and how to OC using BLK and the rest of it. I didn't jump ship or follow the sheep either and it's not because I don't want to learn or that I am retarded it's just the way it has worked out for me.

When i upgrade in the future I hope to learn how to OC properly, but don't forget i am still new to PCs in general and I am still learning things every day.

For the longest time, in the states the 970 was only $100 bucks cheaper than the 980x. Now its almost half the price of a 980. That is glorious imo

I dont think he meant it as attitude bro just pointing out the differences in his own way. When I read his comment I didnt feel attitude just opinion. But all that said I do still agree imho its no fun just crankin up multi's and volts. while higher clocks do help higher stable bus speed is where the performance increase really shows up.

And some peektures. To be honest if I could afford a new build, id be all over the 970 at this point in time.
