OC3D AMD Fiji Owners Club

how are you finding AMD's CF scaling against Nvidia's SLI scaling? It is something that I'd be very interested in knowing.

It is swings and roundabouts but I find taking that into account it is about even.

What you should look at is which system suits the games you play better. Having said that this can change very quickly with a driver update.

Worse still the drivers from both camps are disappointing at the moment.

I meant for Xfire.. let alone Quadfire like Kaap:p
Single cards no problems at all:)

Latest Quad SLI drivers 355.80 trashed my Win10 installation lol

Back on Win8.1 now.:D

355.80 hot fix drivers were supposed to help with multi GPU setups, maybe only up to 3 cards perhaps lol

Nvidia has dropped the ball on drivers lately. I don't expect quadsli/fire to be perfect without issues but it should never be so bad to trash an OS install:p

Most people on 355.80 don't seem to have a problem but the drivers did not agree with my setup lol.

"The Red Machine" up and running, now I must give it a good clean and get rid of the dust.:D

Just bought an Asus Strix Fury and the BenQ XL2730Z to replace my 970 and 1080p screen. Very excited to receive it in a few days.

What kind of overclocks have Fury (non X) owners been getting?

Probably looking at around 1100-1150 and 550 on the memory.

Good choice on the monitor, I got it a few weeks ago and love it :)

Yeah, that's what I've been seeing in reviews as well. I was a tad concerned they were being sent golden samples of the Fury—if you call that kind of an overclock a golden sample, what with how spoilt we've become with Maxwell—so I'm glad to hear its consistent for average consumers as well.

As for monitors, I had originally intended on buying an ROG Swift or the Acer Predator. G-Sync is a superior version of VRR in general and the 980ti is only €100-150 more expensive than the Fury whilst being substantially more powerful. But the quality control issues with enthusiast gaming monitors right now is a little embarrassing. The BenQ is reported to be more consistent in general, and it's cheaper by a large margin. I recognise the difference between the Swift and the XL2730Z is mainly the G-Sync module, but the kind of prices Acer and Asus were asking for should reflect more consistency, IMO.

I've also heard from an owner of the BenQ saying the monitor easily competes with a decent IPS panel in many areas apart from viewing angles, especially when properly calibrated. I was convinced on IPS this time around, but nothing within my price range interested me. The BenQ ticked the most amount of boxes. I'll see what's available in another 3-4 years when 4K should be more attainable. With DP 1.3, hopefully it'll allow for 120Hz 4K gaming on IPS, OLED, PLS, VA or something nice like that.

Having tried both G-Sync and Freesync I honestly cannot tell the difference between them.

I previously had a ROG Swift, I went through 4 of them due to various issues I won't get into but in general the image quality on the BenQ is exactly the same, Which was fantastic on the Swift, But the colours pop more on the BenQ.

As for the 980 Ti being substantially more powerful, Maybe in some games but in others they are very close :)

I think the only reason why I favour G-Sync is because of the lower reported input lag. However, that could be partly due to the panel choices and the scalers each respective company uses. The MG279Q is an example of that. Not sure if you read any of the reviews, but it was said to have a really unresponsive feel when FreeSync was switched on. The monitor had to be kept at 144Hz for the input lag to decrease to the normal rate of around 4-10ms.

Yeah, to be honest, the only game that shows nVidia take a huge lead over AMD that I'm playing at the moment is GTA V. An overclocked 980 would beat a Fury in that, and a 980ti would obviously increase that gap further. I'm not that fussed, though. The only other game the Fury struggles with that I really want to play is absolutely pants for AMD in general, Wolfenstein New Order. An overclocked 970 beats a Fury X in that game at 1440p and 1080p. AMD really need to talk with the developers or something. It's so poorly optimised.
