I have a Sapphire R9 390 and i can't even hear any coil whine with mine, maybe i got lucky.
Whats your coil whine like on the Strix card?. My Sapphire Tri OC coil whine is starting to me off and I've only been living with it 2 days!.
Tried lowering clock speeds, overclocking and same result. Thinking if I RMA it i'll probably get the same result!.
Is it constant or does it only happen in certain situations?
When I ran 3dmark/futuremark got the coil whine in all benchmarks tests...Normal operation nothing so far. Gonna try loading up arkham knight and see if it does it on that later.
I can attest to the drivers being top notch now for AMD. The very latest Fallout 4 driver is excellent, and performance has risen so much that I can now use FXAA without paying too high a price @ 4k. I still get my slowdowns sure, but I am more convinced they are engine based, rather than driver/grunt based.
Those are kinda heavy benchmarks which also stress the power delivery system...
Remember to limit the framerate or enable vsync if you get really high fps, like in older/simple games
So Tomb Raider i still get a coil whine in 1080p with vsync enabled...Not as audible as before but its still present![]()
It's not unusual for any card to have coil whine during in game menus or really old games because they can tend to spike up to the high hundreds or even thousands of FPS which causes the coils to vibrate intensely. If it does it outside of that and it's constant then I'd suggest a RMA.
Just using the benchmark tool in Tomb Raider and its audible...Maybe if I noise dampen the case?
What if I put a waterblock on it? lol
Just games it appears to do it on, normal tasks like YouTube, web browsing when the card is doing nothing its fine.
putting a block on it won't change anything as it's the coils and not temp related. I'd probably RMA if it does it in every game.
I've heard whine three or four times over the last two months. It always disappeared. The worst overclocker ever though.Whats your coil whine like on the Strix card?. My Sapphire Tri OC coil whine is starting to me off and I've only been living with it 2 days!.

I just installed Crimson. It crashed within ten minutes. lolYa those drivers really made a big difference as WYP showed in his article. It's a shame that the driver came out after the game did though. I wonder what the new Raedon software suite will do for performance of the newest games when it comes out

Are folks on 15.11.1 Beta or 15.11 that comes with Crimson?
So are you and others on 15.11.1 or 15.11? Or is 15.11.1 now 15.11 'Crimson'? I ask because Gaming Evolved is still recommend 15.11.1 as a Beta driver.Crimson requires a new installation like any driver. It's replacing so the CCC drivers![]()
I don't think you're understanding my question. I'm asking whether folks here are using 15.11.1 or 15.11. I wanted to see if anyone was experiencing issues with either. Not home so haven't been able to install it but looking at the website it's a full new driver. I'd reckon you'd uninstall your current driver then install the new Crimson suite.
Since updating to Crimson coil whinge has gone completely in games. I'm back to happy again now xD
