Anyone got any comments on whats the better of the 2 above. Always been a netgear fanboy but their software and crappy installation always gets me and I hate doing loads of reboots and stuff like that.

So has anyone got any experience with belkin stuff over netgear?

I like Belkin. I've had loads of their networking and power products and they are great. I've also found support to be awesome with a lifetime warranty and 24/7 customer support - none too shabby :)

I voted other as I hate Netgear with a passion and have never used anything from Belkins line of networking products.

I am quite liking my US Robotics equipment, they always make a top notch product and never put their name on anything that's crap.

Aye, the firewall on our Netgear sux. Causes so many pages to require several refreshes in order to load... Yet my dad insists on using it... <sighs>

what are we talking about??? what sort of product. how much you looking to spend? there are quite a lot of other makes that better netgear and belkin..

Westell or Draytek tbh.

For Switches, the old style Netgears win,

For cables, Belkin,

For wireless adapters, get mpci cards Intel or Gigabyte >* tbh and then convert them to pci or stick them in your lappy etc.

For wireless routers, as said Draytek,

For wireless access points, SMC or 3COM (Cisco if you're rich ;))

For wired routers, probably Westell (Safecom if you're on a budget).

For nics, 3COM.

My belkin sucks a**.

Randomly drops the internet connection for no reason. Drops out the connection every 5 seconds durring thunder storms. And worst of all it drops out for a split second and reconnects with a lower upload speed (eg from 288kbps to 94).

O o I`ve never had a problem with NetGear products >.< Got a good handful of their nics here, some many many years old.

Got some USR nics, they`re good.

Got an Intel Wireless thingy in meh laptop, probably made by some1 else, - works great.

Linksys` old wrt54g is a nice router.

My nephew has a Belkin wireless usb thingy and it works great, as far as he lets on (I`ve not had to help him out with it)

Got a 3Com cablemodem - that tbh is an absolutely tremendous workhorse. I`ve had it for probably 15 years and it`s never - ever - caused a problem. And it works @ 10m, when I was informed it`d be suitable up to 5m (which back in them was science fiction, 256/512k was the max then).

erm.. I love the goods that are right at the time ! - there I`m neutral :p

Got some D-Link nics and hubs, and a guess-the-eastern-manufacturer hub.

Their nics are good, but have nothing on 3COM ones, unfortunately, their routers are ****.

I don't like belkin stuff much :(

Netgear seems ok tho.

Also one downside to the belkin is on default there is no password at all lol :)

As I found out when I moved into my new house as I was using my neighbours belkin wireless for my internet connection while I was waiting for BT to connect me lol :)

I just bridged my network with theirs using my Linksys WRT54GS with custom firmware (overpowered for bigger/further range) :)

Altho I guess it's not entirely belkins fault, the average user isn't going to know anything about security and is generally going to be dumb enough to leave it open. Nice for people Wardriving I guess.

A default password could be a good start tho.

tbh, netgear home products are pretty poo, netgear prosafe stuff is pretty good, they just work and are rock solid.

I don't think there's much between belkin and netgear really.

I like linksys stuff, Altho even some of their new stuff seems cheap and buggy :(

*bah where my sig go?*

if you mean encryption key, a lot of netgear waps don't have one either.

Yep, but they're damn expensive.

There is quite a significant difference between netgear and belkin stuff, although some people like Kemp are lucky ;).

*it's in your first post*.

Aye I've always liked Belkin as their support is awesome. Mine's been pretty solid and I like the UI too.

I've heard that the newer products are pretty pants :(

I'm getting a Draytek when I get a new router :)

support, awesome, belkin, same sentence. we've been trying to get a ups sent back for 3 months, tons of promised phone calls back. im getting grey hairs, im only 21!!!

to be honest, there isnt many home wireless products that are secure. i can get into most within 30 minutes if there is active traffic on that AP. i've managed to get into all sorts of makes, even netgear prosafe, and some other business use ones. only one i havent been able to get into is the zyxel g1000 and g3000.

To be honest, spending £150 on a wireless router/AP isnt that bad considering the amount people spend on other bits of hardware inside there pc's. i think a wireless AP/router is just as important now.

tbh, if you got into their wifi, having a default password is no better than having no password.

[Edit] What, this sig?
