I'm fascinated - to what extent are SX and IDnet connected ?

I'm more than happy to find myself on a UK overclocking forum, and am also considering a migration after being practically disconnected by +net. This seems like a really good promotion, but I'm fascinated where SX has popped up from ? Is it hosted with IDnet, or run by staff ? How does it all work ?! :)

Hi dbates,

SysXtreme and IDNet are totally seperate entities.

SysXtreme was created almost a year ago now as an Overclocking forum with a bit of a difference from the normal forum :) SysXtreme is run by myself the admin and Kempez815, Fragtek, Dav0s, PV5150 the moderators.

IDNet have been in business for around 10 years now, and i found out about them just over a year ago, and started using their broadband services as i found them to be far superior to any other ISP.

I got friendly with one of IDNet's directors, and its pretty much gone from there :)

:anisx: has been about over a year now formed from members of various other forums who wanted a more relaxed forum with a more friendly community into which they could pour their considerable overclocking knowledge.

IDNET is an association we have been VERY happy to make along the way and they have helped us greatly in expanding :D

We ARE currently hosted with IDNET using our own overclocked servers (1 x Dual Xeons @ 3.4GHz, 1 x Celeron @ 4.6GHz - see post).

Glad to have ya here at :anisx: mate :wavey:

EDIT: Posted before I saw XMS's answer ;)

I started telling friends about the service (well at least the offer) tonight, and I haven't even been on the forums long enough, or migrated over yet ;)

Is there any additional terms and conditions for this deal ? (Being a layer, I can't be at peace until I've read the small print !)

You can find IDNET's terms and conditions at their website or by Clicking Here

There are no information in terms and conditions about migrating to IDNET in that case you can contact them through their;

Phone line: 08000 267 237

Email: contact at idnet dot net

I believe the deal is same as their normal 2 mb unlimited package besides its only costing £14.99...

All the best.

Edit: Hey XMS , do you anything about their 8mb trials. e.g once the trials over do we get speed boosts or we just stay on 2mb? :)

I'm not sure - I think we'll have to enquire about this mate

I would pay a fair bit for 8mb - as long as it was below £30p/m :D

I havn't heard anything official from IDNet regarding the 8mb service, although Simon did say that the cost of the 8mb package is likely to be under £29.99.

They also have this on their website: http://www.idnet.net/news/article.jsp?id=51

I think a free upgrade to 8mb might be a little bit too much to ask Tec :) We'll just have to wait and see what happens :)

I've one reservation about this, that being such a good and (dare I use the word) cheap ISP all the high users will flood in and the service, due to contention, drop. This appears to be what has happened to F2S, sadly.

Difference is: Freeserve has a far wider audience. IDNET's offer is restriced to :anisx: noly and the £14.99 is not commercially available.

IDNET will not go the same way as F2S dont worry :)

As Kemp said. The number of users that have signed up for IDNet via SysXtreme is a drop in the ocean compared with what an ISP like F2S would take in a day alone.

You must also remember that the IDNet network is over-engineered too (yes, they planned ahead unlike other ISP's), and as a result, its going to take a LOT of people on their 2mb broadband lines to saturate the main pipe.

In addition to this, most of IDNet's customers at present are businesses, which means the IDNet network is very quiet outside of office hours :)

I have my migration date for the 10th January with IDNet, hopefully there service and speeds will be better than with F2S, who have been pretty poor in the last month or so.

:)

With the influx of users I believe that their (F2s) network is now contended on some of their central pipes, but not all of them.

Sorry for the confusion I have amended the post

Was with f2s not long ago used to be great isp what happened to them over the last year

Going the same way as PlusNet, who got a ton of leechers on their cheap unlimited services, and oversubscribed, and went from being one of the top ISPs to one of the worst.

Hehe , imagine airline makes a great offer and everyone jumps on the plane, airline puts more passangers into the plane rather then increasing the number of plane , then plane drops on the ground due to heavy weight , hmm wonder who is fault it is :)
