Apple Media Tablet

There has been lots of speculation about the possiblity of Apple bringing out a larger version of the iPhone and with the rumours a few months back of them buying millions of 10" multi touch displays. I have started to believe it, and to be honest I really hope it is true, I love my iPhone and to have a 10" 'media tablet' would be awesome, especially if it can play back HD content as it is rumoured to be able to.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Are you interested or think it is meh?

Very true... Apple are already attacking the portables of gaming. I think (if they are bothered) they will make another games console.

I still think Steve Jobs is going to walk onto the stage at the press event with a 10" Media tablet and the new iPhone...

Apple could not care less about gaming on a console type system, they have only ever shown interest in portable gaming. This is a very open market, what is there? The PSP which bricks every time you look at it, and the DS which tbh is terrible! I have spent many hours playing games on the iPhone everything from FPSs to Tower Defence and it is more enjoyable then with both the PSP and DS (I own all three). If the give it a bit more grunt and possibly a better battery, I would happily pay more for the iPhone just so I could game on it!

i think him walking on stage with a 10" netbook is more likely than a tablet.

It's supposed to be a 7" or 9" tablet PC, essentially a big iPhone and essentially, therefore, a netbook. Price point rumoured to be $350-400 and I for one would be interested in looking at one, if only for the cool factor :p

Steve Jobs, has said he is not doing a netbook as we know it, in other words the clam shell. How cool would this be? I am with Kempez I want it just for the "cool factor" although it will sit next to my DiNovo Mini - if I find £20 and the iPhone 3G AHHHH that would be awesome!

I don't have mine at the mo (tis being fixed very slowly by O²), so yes it's a nightmare withought it, even more so as the phone they gave me hardly works

It would match my iPhone :p

Chances are, whatever they make will run off the same OS.

Not sure if that's good or bad tbh. Good for the "pick it up and it works" factor, but coming from a smartphone background, the iPhone methods are very restrictive.

Bound to look slick tho, be expensive, and be very sought after for being a "wow" factor in the home @least.

Winter will be very busy release-wize this year.

I don't agree with the fact it wouldn't be effective. As a web browsing, music storing type of device it would be superb. The iPhone's OS lends itself to a 'pick up and use' tablet incredibly well, especially if the on-screen keyboard is a little larger (and therefore easier to use).

£350-400ish shouldn't be too dear imo, although I'm sure people will still moan about it.

I'd almost guarantee it being effective. They have this knack of delivering a product that.. well ur mother could come in, pick it up, and she's on the net - looking at ur embarrassing photos (*cough*) or whatever.

The only way I would look at it as being restrictive is in the sense that.. well if u had a smartphone product (or android apparently), u could have it in ur front room thinking it'd be kewl to control ur tv or music (or pc) via a bluetooth effort. With the smartphone (and I've seen this on android beta), u find an app and stick it on - with the apple products of this nature, u have to think they'd use something like the app-store.

Whether u'd be able to control ur wireless networked media would be exciting - whether the apple platform would want all the products to be converted or showing a bought license is debatable.

I'd be interested in which ratio it's a mini-mac that's portable - or an overgrown iPhone, if u like. More of the mini-mac build would be outstanding.

But sure, out of the box, being used as what it's sold as, it'll do whatever it does with a great degree of userfriendlyness.

It's gotta be over £300.

There's a host og iPhone apps that remote control PC's, obviously with Apple's remote being an example of their own proprietry stuff.

So if it's around the same price, surely it's a decent price?

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. I have a feeling a new iPhone is headed for £200 PayG with the old specs (the iPhone 3G specs), with a top end model being the more expensive/contract option with all the new goodies :)

Well I must actually be one of a few Apple neutral people out there. Neither love them or hate them or have anything against them.

After my last couple of phones (K800i & N95) I'm now looking for a proper touch smart phone. I could have upgraded in November but didn't wanna be tied in to an 18 month contract on an 'ok' phone so I let my contract fully end in February.

Have now switched on to a Simplicity plan on O2 so I can cancel within a month if switching networks or instant cancel if getting an O2 contract, which is the plan anyway.

Was seriously looking into the N97, but the resistive touch screen is a stupid move. That with the fact it hasn't really got a fully established version of the App Store, I'm now seriously leaning to the next gen Iphone.

Give it a lil longer though and if the Symbian Foundation lot get proper open source app development going then, come next upgrade, it might be a tougher choice. Android needs new hardware options too!
