AC Freezer Pro 7

Question:

Does this come with MX-1 thermal paste already applied? It doesn't say anywhere on the box. I've found a site that says it has it but for all I know they could just be talking out of their arse.

Anyone here have any idea?

I'd use AS5 mate, TIM that ships with heatsinks is usually garbage, unless it's an Ultra-X as it comes with a small syringe of AS5 :)

My Pro 64 came with some silvery goo already apllied which turned out to be pretty decent stuff :) I'm guessing it is the MX-1 compound..

^^ Says it comes with it.

Nice one for that :beerchug: confirms what i'd hoped. If its the MX-1 then thats fine to leave on there. I know the AS5 is preferred by most but i've read a few reviews that put the MX-1 up there once both have cured.

Surely MX-1 is MX-1 though? Or not? I dunno. As in my above post i've read good things about it. Am I mistaken or is it just most peoples preference is the AS5?

AS5 is like an "industry standard" if you will when it comes to the top choice of TIM's between hardware enthusiasts.

The Cool Labs Liquid Pro stuff is supposed to be stellar too.

From what I know, the goo that came on my AC Freezer 64 was pretty decent and the cpu didnt get much past 40 degrees even after a good gaming session with the fan bios controlled.

When I took it off and stuck white chepo goo under it is was terrible, with fan on full whack the temps were looking like 45~50 degrees.

The AS5 at the moment I only stuck on a few days ago but its a lot better already than the white stuff and I'm looking at 41 degrees at the moment with full fan speed and folding at top speed

So the paste that came pre-applied on your FP7 preformed as well as your new AS5?

Guessing the MX-1 didn't have time to cure either so the temps are reasonably reliable?

I'm not trying to make either out to be better but i'm just trying to find out if its really worth me changing it. From what i've read the MX-1 is a top preformer as well as obviously the AS5 is. From what i've read its not really worth me changing but still more opinions would be helpful :)

Well AS5 is supposed to have a curing time of 200 hours or something IRC. The AS5 is on a 3700+ at 2.4 gigs right now. The MX-1 was on a 3000+ at 2.3gigs. The 3000+ was just above stock voltage, and the 3700+ at stock. Because of that I don't think I can make a fair comparison between them really.

The MX-1 definitely got ample curing time, used it for about 6 months. The AS5 is coming off anyway as I'm changing motherboard for my pci-e upgrade, time to come out of the stone age :p

to be honest i hate my AC Freezer 64 Pro. the cooling it provides is subpar

load with all my fans on low, and TEMp controlled is 55 degs, cpu fan goes to full

and case fans on full, sounds like a tornado, is 50'

go with the zalmans..

What makes me a bit werey is when I see some manuf-goo in a packet and it`s all seperated and stuff.

I never see AS5 seperated, or the *gasp* Thermaltake stuff.. (w8s to get mugged)..

I guess the key thing to remember if it is seperated is to massage the pack b4 u use it, cos obviously that clear liquid stuff is not meant to be there! mush it all together nicely!

Too late.. Already have my FP7. Will see how it goes when I get it running in a day or two and post temps

The MX-1 came pre-applied and looked fine but most pre-applieds probably look 'fine'.

Had that problem with one cheapo packet that had seperated a lil bit. Just binned it.

the problem with pre-application thermal grease compounds is not what it's made of.

It's applied far too thick! The amount used is obnoxious, and can not help temps, no matter how you look at it. If they used a small amount to help fill tiny gaps and increase contact with the heatsink, I'd understand, but at this rate, a small dab of AS5 is the best option.

I'm using the stuff that came with my freezer 7 pro. I'm pretty sure I saw a review where it was better than AS5.

I had to use it as the supplier didn't send any AS5 :(

I was going to use it for a while and replace it, but it is excellent stuff :)

It's not applied too thick or anything either.

The Freezer 7 Pro comes with Arctic MX-1 thermal compound pre- applied on its base

How many people who have said about it being crap or applied wrongly or whatever have actually had/installed a freezer7pro

I agree a lot of manufacturers supplied some horrendous stuff years ago (mainly the pink stuff that was like chewing gum) but the arctic freezer's come with some decent stuff.

The power of generalisation hits again  :(

Yea, retarded tbh.

I haven't tried it yet - but apparently it doesn't react well to Ali. Now my thought is - whats the silvery stuff on top of the processor on top of the copper heatsink?
