Win 10 - First Impressions.

Another slight problem with W10. Audio settings, I have a Cambridge 5.1 speaker set up, but there is no option to have 5.1 with rear speakers. I mean who uses 5.1 with side speakers? I am currently using the 7.1 just so I can utilize the sub woofer and rear speakers but can tell audio is broken. Hope this is remedied soon.

Same problem here I can't use DTS digital interactive through my optical cable yet hopefully they will apply a fix as a lot of people complaining about this issue and the fault is microsofts end as they have admitted on their forums

Well I tried updating this evening and rolled back to 8.1 within about half an hour.

Battlefield 4 turned out to be a complete stutterfest. No idea why. It runs beautifully at 4k on 8.1. But on Windows 10 you get a few seconds of good peformance followed by about half a second of about 2 FPS, then back to good performance again :(

I'm was contemplating installing windows 10 but I think I'm just wait a few months then purchase the pro version as I only have the standard 8.1 atm.

Aero snap isn't playing nicely with Chrome. If I snap a Chrome window to either the left or the right and choose another window, that window locks up and I can't do anything, forcing me to close it. I guess the issue is with Chrome as it doesn't happen with any other application.

UPDATE Time: I was able to do a clean install this morning went through with no issues.

When i was doing the clean install i didn't put my key in i just skip the whole thing but i did bring up the key again so i just skip again boot into windows and it said windows is activated.

I would like to thank NeverBackDown for the advice he gave me yesterday :D

Noticing a few bugs now, my sound keeps resetting to 100%, and the mail app has stopped responding and there is 5 update on the store but they are stuck at pending tried all I could find on the web to sort it, the solitaire app gets really laggy after a few games.

May just try a clean install and see if that helps

with the mail app i had to set up via outlook.com, the store updates i had the same issue on windows 8.1 the solution is telling it to update weekly or check for updates weekly that fixed it for me.

no issue with games here but ive lost all media streaming capability and my tv and xbox can no longer connect to my pc for media server.. there is meant to be a new media server app coming soon.

Finally got the updates from the store and it fixed the issues except sound.

I put in wsreset.exe in run and it decided to work after a reboot, though I had already tried this 6 times or more just decided to give it 1 more go b4 bed

After 10 days of windows 10............

pro's
1) slightly quicker/snappier than windows 7
2) the new search web / pc function makes things a little easier for the average layman
3) Microsoft edge has potential (in the future)
4) still trying to think of a forth.........
EDIT: 4) it's free !

con's
1) colored tiles are annoying and remind me of my phone.
2) the absence of aero glass
3) looks dull in general, windows 7 looked nicer
4) obviously built off the windows 8 platform (big mistake, should of been a whole new one)

Well I've just forced the install/upgrade of W10 pro (just started the setup.exe that was in one of those 'hidden system folders' lol) and at first glance I must say it looks pretty neat.

I like the new start system. Kinda set it up the way I had it in W8.1. I keep my desktop icons hidden and use the start thing for icons, which I've now also set to full screen obviously. At last the tiles don't pick some random colour, so glad they all take the colour I specified in the scheme, now my start menu doesn't look like a random painting anymore ^_^ It's also cool that it's way more customisable than the W8.1 start menu, big pro there.

The upgrade went without any problems at all and it didn't take long either. As for general usage feedback, we'll see how things go. Looking promising so far though, it seems to be a bit faster than W8.1 too

EDIT: hmm going through settings in the control panel seems to be very, very laggy though. Anyone else having this?

I had a forced update break a few things yesterday. I'm currently stuck with a HUGE delay on the login screen. PC boots in seconds, but when I enter my password I have good 30-40 second wait to get in to Windows proper - it was 2-3 seconds before the update. Also, my Start Menu button no longer works, and there are huge delays trying to get into All Settings from the notification button.

To be clear, PC was running perfectly, I went online, had a couple of forced updates applied and after rebooting Windows was broken. Removing updates did not help.

So, ALL of my issues so far have been linked to broken / incorrect updates.

Btw: anyone noticed how any Browser-related updates show as Internet Explorer and not Edge? Found that quite funny...simple product rename much? lol

If I recall correctly, Windows 7 was based on Vista so it'd make sense for them to base it off 8.1 (which is actually a very solid and reliable base).

Gotta say that Windows 8.1 has been one of my best Windows experiences to date. People seem to lump W8.1 with W8 yet my experience with both has been hugely different. W8 was a bit of a dog, I ran it dual boot with W7 for an extended period and it was problematic and a bit flaky during that time. W8.1 on the other hand remains rock-solid. Boot times and the responsive feel of W8.1 are the most stand out feature vs. W7 and W8 in my view.
