Win 10 - First Impressions.

Its called get your tinfoil hat on and install gentoo :D

They'll keep on spying on you until the whole world stops buying their products/it becomes fashionable to be a privacy loving company. Android (sorry, I mean Google..)/Apple et al are just as bad.

to be fair, I think that Microsoft has been transcendent regarding privacy all those years

TBF after running a fair few tracert scans on all IPs on my system, there is nothing really that anyone should be concerned about, other than "amazonaws" which is snooping your search and shopping habits.

My tips are:

Disable Peer to peer sharing options (if microsoft want to use my system as one of their own little servers, they can damn well pay me), turn off any other sharing or data collection options including Cortana, and most important for us that care about our system stability turn off system and driver updates.

P2P is used by a few big games companies already. I've turned it off as my internet is already pretty poor as it is. I never disable system updates as I've never had any issues with them (and I've delt with a few machines that got messed up through infections because they hadn't updated).

Driver updates are a whole kettle of fish though. They should have left it like it was in 8.1.

Don't mind automatic updates.. but the automatic driver installs really shouldn't happen. That should be an option to install or even download.

In my opinion, Windows cumulative/security/.NET/ anything else pertaining to the OS should automatically be installed.. however I think all drivers should be left alone.. a prompt should ask if you would like to download. The biggest issue is GPU drivers. That at the least should be asked. I uninstalled my drivers on my 390x and when I swapped to the Fury X then installed the AMD drivers, I had to tell Windows about 100 times to not install the audio portion of the driver through the update.. really damn annoying

Amazon aws is just the centralised service name for all the amazon web services, you wouldn't believe the amount of stuff that would disappear if amazon went down ;)

Edit:
Um.. so

Can anyone set a UK date format? i.e. dd/mm/yy in the localisation settings?

Closest I get is like 15-Aug-2015 etc

Just go to date and format settings. Has a M/D/YYYY?

I think you can turn this off the same way you did on 7 and 8.. You can also use the update hider tool to stop updates from installing

left click on the time in right corner, date and time setting. there should be a formats option

Is it just my system or any body else having the same issue? All of the cumulative updates have all failed to install. Thats from the initial KB3081424 to the (to my knowledge) latest one KB3081444.

THAT's AMERICAN!!! not UK

UK is dd/mm/yyyy

We say it properly, 31st of March 2014

Not March 31st, 2014
Ooooh shots fired  do this on Failbook and you start a flame war, don't even get them started on driving on which ever side of the road. :)
