I have a virus called TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen and i cant seem to get rid of it, i have tried many different antivirus programs but some dont even find it and even the ones who do they cant remove it. The antivirus programme pops up every 5 mins saying threat detected in temp folder and folders with nothing in them appear in the temp folder, no matter how many times you delete them thay just come back with different names.

After lots of searching i found out people have formatted there hard drives to get rid of the virus but before i do that i was wondering if anybody knows how to get rid of it without taking such drastic measures.

how many AV's do you have?,i use avira and it has given me a few false negatives untill it updated like 13files one day (4days after i noticed the trojen),stinger is awsome so is malawarbytes if they dont find anything chances are you havent got anyting,is ur net running slow, overall computer running slow, any programs in task manager using loads of resouces?

So why do i get a warning every 5 mins saying i have this virus and make folders in my temp folder wich the virus acording to avira and avg it is in

then when it comes up via avira, click on submit to quarentine, delete the files it makes then delete it from quarentine

It's a pretty genuine advert thing viral. I'm surprized MB doesn't detect it, unless u haven't upd8d it or something, it's over a year old.

Stop pop-up blockers, does ad things etc. Disguises itself as an mp3 dll.

According to Sophos, they can get rid of it (which I'm skeptical about tbh), and they have an online check thing ?? http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/viruses-and-spyware/trojagentgtn.html

Never heard of Sophos until the BBC started using it. Why ? Some1 obviously knows some1.

thats odd, hate virus, so when on windows i try to stick to ESET Nod32, but i isnt a freeware unfortunetely.

If you manage to get hold of one, have a go, as i never get viruses or malware at all. I also think that i am much less likely to get viruses too, it all depends on what usage you make of your machine. There are certain website which i would absolutely avoid visiting. Even with a proper antivirus i still avoid cheap offer websites that sell things too cheap and dont have a feedback background. There are also other website that we dont have to mention either that will bring lots of malware and viruses.

Wouldn't go that far. Just for this trojan u can just delete the files as described in the Sophos link. MB has a good feature for deleting files that don't want to be deleted too.

I am guessing you play MW2?

If so just ignore it,It is a bug that IW left in which causes certain AV(Avira is the worst culprit for it)to flag as a virus

I got rid of the virus, in the end i scanned my temp folder with kaspersky then that found the virus and deleted it, then to get rid of all the files it left behined i used ccleaner clean them and the regestry.
