time for a new av?

Permafrost

Compo Whore
hi guys i have an old but awesome yamaha dsp-ax761 with mission speakers 5.0 surround sound (no need for a sub there bassey enough) and for some reason i'm not getting surround sound at all, i've tried everything i can think of, i have asus sabertooth z77 to amp via optical cable and i have a few HDMI cables so i'm not short of a few cables

any ideas??

To get surround sound to your amp, you need the computer to pass bistream via your digital connection. (dolby digital or dts) If your sound device doesn't support live encoding of one of the above formats, you will need to use analogue 6 channel instead. The amp has this input so it should be possible using 3x 3.5mm stereo jack to phono cables. (front L/R, rear L/R, centre/sub) The input is located at top near enough in the centre of your connections. (labelled multi ch input)

The alternative to get it to work via optical is to get a sound card that supports live encoding. I'm not certain which cards offer it but i know my asus xonar essence ST supports dolby digital live.

yeah tried that, works fine with my ps3 with hdmi.

I'll try with the analogue set up when i get time

thanks for your help
