Those little annoying F@H things ..

Are you using the V7 client?

I have noticed some strange fluctuations with that, but it seems more down to the estimation calculations rather than computation actually slowing down on the work unit.

On the other hand it could be a background application/process eating away a few % of cpu time which can badly dent PPD.

I found when running FAH on my Q6600 @ 3.2-3.4 ghz having Hardware monior running in the background took as much as 1000 PPD away from me while using 0 to 1% of CPU time (as seen in task manager). When getting between 8k and 10k PPD, 1000 PPD is quite a chunk to lose for an application seemingly doing nothing.

i'm using Gpu Tracker v2. It seems to have fixed itself now, currently at 19,946

I assume you arn't folding on the GPU at the same time.

These 609x work units arn't giving me the highest PPD ever but they are pretty consistent so I'm pretty happy folding them.

14k PPD on my dual quads and 28k PPD on my 2600k while not GPU folding and 12.5k & 25.5K with GPU folding (all according to GPU Tracker that is).

Yup only folding on cpu. I'm not to fussed about the issue much but it happened randomly so it got me thinking.

5870 has gone back to my mate so currently got a temp radeon x800

The 5870 never gave me great ppd and would frequently get unstable wu's

Out of intrest. What speed is your CPU running at?

I have half a mind of replacing the 460 in my folding rig. If that does happen I will probably put my 460 in the spare hardware thread.

That could happen quite a while from now, but if/when it does and you havn't found a replacement for the x800 I will hit you with a PM.

My CPU is running at 4Ghz, right now ppd is 21,163 which is what i had before in the morning when i started the WU and before all the fluctuations.

I'm thinking of getting a few EVGA cards from the US when i go in September for main rig, so hopefully i can last till then but i may be interested in it for my dedicated f@h rig, which i've got all parts for, just require a GPU but i'm in no rush to build it, just something im doing as it happens

Thanks for letting me know. I was/am curious as to what sort of setups my xeons are equivalent to.

Maybe you could put a request in the spare hardware thread.

Even if its a GPU you cant fold on, just to get the CPU up and running untill you have a GPU to fold on.

My rebuild is taking longer than planned as my motherboard (UD9) seems to have decided it's not happy overclocked, or stock, and likes to run @ 98c.. I wonder what I did to it.. :/

Take a leaf out of my book and cook the thing into working

On second thoughts.... probably not the smartest idea in the world

Atm i'm only folding on my CPU, and not 24/7 either (it's not a viable option atm, hopefully will be able to in the future). I've been folding on WU 7200, which is horrible and it gives me hardly any points

But today i finally got off it and now the new WU is worth twice as many points! Honestly, i feel sorry for anyone who receives the 7200 WU, its terrible.

1090 is now running under Lubuntu and bringing in 24-30k PPD, if I can keep the 430s folding smoothly then should be up to 38k PPD soon.

Planning up to three FX 8120s over the coming months, I guess they will be ~23k+ PPD a peice under Lubuntu?

one question, wen folding on gpu, which do i select, gpu0, gpu1, gpu2 etc? or is any ok? also its still showing 0 ppd at 2% is this normal

All good now, just had to wait for a for a few % to get done

PPD is being totally massacred thanks to my SMP constantly reverting 20% (have set to save every 3 minutes now) and the client getting to 99.99% then just stalling and not sending. Should have at least 25k, keep getting 12k at best

Just completed a 5.5k unit and it was sitting at 99.99% complete, it wouldn't send to Stanford and the new unit wasn't being worked on either, so after a few minutes I rebooted as nothing was happening and now the new work unit is being worked on but the old one is nowhere to be seen - that's the second 5.5k unit I've lost today. 11k due to a lousy client. I can only hope it sent and hadn't shown up in the client - this is ridiculous.
