Nice to know some of you are so against marriage! Just got a real kick in the balls from my parents, I told them I was going round my GF's dad's house to ask if I could marry his daughter (I know, I'm old fashioned) and my mum started saying how it might be too soon.

Really upset me actually, I was hoping they would be happy for me.

You didn't just meet her did you?:D.

I would love to marry my GF, and I got her a ring after we was together for just over a year, still not married yet but I had no stable job and was in education. I went out and saved up the most money I could, I went some days without food at college and stopped buying my magazines:D. I then got her from her work/college at lunch time and asked her to look for a ring she liked :), she found one but it cost pennies to what I saved up. I said don't you want a more expensive one, she said I love this one and wouldn't ever change my mind. She spent like £60 on a ring, I saved up like £600 :D.

She still has the ring to this day, been near 3 years on :D.

She's still happy with it and is still grateful for what I got her.

PS - rest of the money was spent on some nice restaurant, a bottle of vodka (oh yes) and just spent the rest together on silly things.

When my wife and I married, I gave her a ring that I made at work outta some scrap stainless steel and she loves it. I also wear a matching one. So it was $.59 worth of steel + 1 hour of time = best gift ever. (some of her gf's look at her like shes retarded for not wanting a diamond. lol )

Awesome! Yeah my girlfriend is a bit like that really. I don't think I would have to spend a lot of money on it, it would just have to be right. I have a few ideas for something that I could get pretty easily which helps!

Hell I'm not against getting what a girl wants for a ring, but my missus saw a ring she liked and i saved up and bought it. I didn't exactly scrimp and scrape, but I went without a couple of things for it.

I wanted to get married, some of you aren't obviously bothered. I would never put my PC before my wife, but then I would never expect her to get in the way of things I want to do, unless they're not in 'our' interest (i.e. spending a load of cash on something instead of paying off the mortgage quicker).

I know that my wife is important to me, more important than what is essentially a bunch of 'stuff', when it all comes down to it.

Not advocating early marriage here, by the way. I got married at 27 after 8+ years of knowing each other. No kids on the horizon (personal choice again), but we're happy :)

Haha nice Kempez! Well Ive known her for over two years and I feel the time is right. And I feel the same, my PC would never come before her. The damn problem is i just found out I have expensive taste! Bit of luck I have an overdraft!

It's nice that someone can talk about this stuff instead of just saying "yeah marriage is for losers, buy a new PC and don't get married." Either people are scared of it or they are just trying to seem cool!

I got married after 2 months and it was a bit of a risk and we both knew it and its been the best 4 years so far, if its right then its right and I don't ever say to anyone that its too soon or ya gotta wait and see. You only live once! And yes total chick flick hahaha

He could get a pair of highly shiny compression fittings or something, get them engraved. With the added thing of when they're together the 2 rings fit together.

Sorry guyz, I'm outta here, this is making me queazy.

Haha, when people hear the word feelings they run like a little girl. Oh how I love to make people uncomfortable!
