Orca

Aaah bless!

i dont get it
did you watch the intro video?
on how he mentions its going to be a long slow project and there's allot for him to think about on top of what he already does?
im not being a kiss-ass, but i think its fair if you dont wait around on this project

dont you think i get it zzacy boy ?! perfection takes time !

well, what you said first was "aww bless" when i was telling you to be patient  that can be miscommunicated in several ways... made me personally think that i was a cute lil kissass or something ^_^

Right then so updates have been, well, slow. That would be the really nice way to put it anyways! Well yesterday was the 5th Anniversary of mums passing, no reviewing or website work was going to be getting done unless it involved a sledge hammer and a 10" metal saw!

I had got it into my head I wanted to make a serious dent in the work for Orca, so I got up early and went to my local cafe and had a modding mans breakfast!

So lets take a look at the chassis when its stripped down to the basics....

Right, so with the chassis bare I did my usual staring at it dreaming, mentally modding it, trying this trying that kinda thing. Ive seen a few mods of late where they have just left the plates from the HDD bays out, although its good that you can see whats inside I really wouldbe be happy with just leaving them out.

So this got my mind to thinking, leaving the plates out isnt good enough, so that only leaves on thing. The whole side of the optical bay had to go!

Now just taking it out wasnt going to work, I needed to get the dremmel out to remove the bits I didnt want, but still leave the mounts for the front of the case and enough structural strength to keep the case from twisting when moved.

So with the front mjor work complete my eyes kept catching the rivets in the case, I really wasnt happy with these so I stripped the whole case down.....

While it was all in bits I modded the roof as I did in the trooper to allow the 360mm rad to be fitted.

So when the case goes back together it will all be black stainless allen bolts and dome headed nuts, these are going to cost a pretty penny but I think it will be worth it.

Ive got the top panel to mod around the handle for air flow but other than that Im waiting for things like the di-noc and the black allen bolts etc to arrive.

Im really happy with the open look of the drive bay area now, I think it will give the case that extra bit of zing. I just want to get it done now, this has made me realise how much I miss being on the tools!

Heres the video I made too:

He's more than likely going to do it "upside down", not that it is really, I prefer the look of it and it makes no difference to the temperatures so, yeah... right Tom?

Always fan up, silly question tbh :p

Hardly a silly question when the PSU is upside down on nearly every case available right now, that case is setup for an upside down PSU.

I prefer them face down with a dust screen myself, hence why i asked.
I also subscribe to the small details ethos you have,it is very much all about the details forming a harmonious whole.
Interested in the final result,it will be nice to see what the end result looks like.

Case has mounts for either way fella. I always run them fan up. Just a personal thing Ive done on pretty much every rig and review build.

I hope you like the end product though, I obviously do the review builds but this is the first remotely custom thing Ive for myself since my original H&H rig!

You have obviously spent some time planning in your head how to give it a certain look, its shaping up to be a clean build.....and i love a clean build. :)

Love This Tom! Been away from the forum recently :( but glad to be back and witnessing awesome work from the King of Modding

King? lol I do appreciate the gesture but there are many many people better than me. Maybe the one with the biggest mouth?
