New Custom PC - Oppinions Appreciated

I'm defiantly not doing SLI or Crossfire. One decent card will be fine.

I'm actually struggling to decide what's best for me. I need something that is fast out of the box, quiet and runs cool. When it comes to specs I will hold my hands up and admit I don't have a clue when trying to compare one card to another. I'm looking at the £500 to £600 range.

Best I actually research what I should be looking in a card.

Some other people will recommend a 290 (x), 280x etc, some will say 780 ti, I will still still go for the Strix if you want cool and quiet with good performance, or if you hold off, shortly (don't know exactly when) Asus and the other manufacturers are going to be releasing higher ram spec'd 780 ti's, you will have to have dig around and see if you can find out some info about it.

Here is couple of the reviews for it

Hope this helps a bit, but to me, from what you have said, it seems the ideal card for you :D

Wouldn't a bit faster RAM do good for the guy since he wants to record it? I mean he would have to compress the files afterwards and faster ram would totaly help

It might be worth getting 1866 memory as its a bit faster, and pretty much the same price depending on where you buy.

Youwhat, thanks for the two links. I'm sold, that Asus Strix 6gb is one fantastic card for the money. Reading those two reviews actually says it has the overclocking capabilities of getting to the speeds of the Titan Black editions. Which is pretty impressive for the money. So by the looks of things I will be overclocking the GPU. I have no doubt it'll run IL2: BoS smoothly on a 120hz monitor at 1920x1080 no problem. I'll be doing a lot of recording whilst flying.

About that Thelosouvlakia, I've gone along with you and MaddenShadow's advice and have picked a pair of 1866 2x8GB (16gb).

Here's the parts list, truthfully what do you guys think now? Thanks again everyone.

Thanks Youwhat, yeah I suppose that makes complete sense, done!

Led's in case, naaaaa, would look great I know but I'm not for spending money on something that's not really going to effect performance. I probably would though if the Corsair 500R Case didn't have a side mesh window with that great big stonking fan on it. Perhaps I can mod a window in.

Do you NEED an optical drive? Lets be honest, they look pretty shit when in a nice case ;)

Ok well here is my noobness shining again. How would you install windows without it? How do people operate installations without a optical drive any more? Update me please someone! hahahaha

The obvious answer is the internet but when you haven't got a OS how do you install? In fact I'll use this thing called the internet and find out myself! BRB

Ok Bosses I will, if it will make you lot happy! Anymore suggestions on the build all would you guys reckon it's looks pretty pucker now?

This help has been fantastic. It's made me a massive fan of OC3D. It's by far my favourite channel on youtube with Linus Tech following behind.

Thanks Barnsley. So many choices and I have so little knowledge about graphics cards. I suppose it's one of the most trickiest components to consider.

I'm always weary of brands I've never heard of. Never too sure what to expect from them, that's why I stand clear of them but I suppose the proof is in the pudding and that Inno3D does run very cool. Time to put some more research into these suggested cards. I think I'll be running these from stock so that's something to consider.

Anyone else want to put their two cent in by all means please do.

It's 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'...everyone always butchers that one. :)
Nice set of comps there, the only thing I'd do differently is a Gigabyte MB with a 2011 socket, quad channel memory, a hex core processor and a Silverstone-Tek-FT02B-W case. I love that case, best I ever had.
Oh, and I stay as far from liquid cooling as I can, makes no sense to me to use a liquid to move the heat to a radiator and use a fan to disperse it when you can put the fan and radiator directly on the cpu.

So a completely different computer....well thanks for that...I guess lol

I think one of the main reasons people like to use water cooling radiators is to clear the heat from the main airflow so to not generate extra heat for any other components. It also creates a more consistent airflow pattern because there aren't any huge obstructions. Apart from graphics card of course but that is unavoidable.

Out of curiosity, why such different components? Why the 2011 socket with hex core? Isn't that tech going the wrong direction?

You can install windows with a USB stick.

Makes no sense? What cools better; a Noctua NH-D15 or a custom loop? :P

>hexcore
lol, for a pc for gaming/simulation and a bit (notice the word bit) of 3d rendering. Really? That's a complete waste of money imo :P. Sure its nice to have a socket 2011 rig but as he's not a complete power user there is no need for him to get one.

Ooooh..... did you really just say that!?!

Good, good. Thanks for the backup, I wasn't convinced with that setup one bit. Sorry Alpha GT, tis true.

One thing I'm planning on doing is holding off on the graphics card since Nvidia have now announced they are making 880's. Woooo, price drops all round!

Really? When did they announce this and could you post a link to it?
