hmmblah's Ryzen build

I built a new system a number of months back, everything but proper cooling anyway. I had planned on reusing my Corsair H105 before I saved enough for custom watercooling, but while stripping out my old system I found a slow leak in the H105. Wraith cooler it is!

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Impact DTX motherboard
EVGA RTX 2080 Super Black Gaming
Crucial Ballistix Elite 3600 DDR4 16GB
GIGABYTE AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 1TB
CaseLabs Mercury S3
Corsair HX750i

Here's the messy state the system has been in the past few months

The residue from the leak left a sticky mess in the bottom of the case. Somehow it didn't end up on any of the old components.

Here's the case stripped down and cleaned off.

The stock Wraith cooler and stock GPU fan are fine for light duty, but once you do anything with them like folding or gaming they are loud!

The watercooling:

EK-Velocity CPU block
EK-Quantum Vector RTX RE GPU block
EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE 200 D5 PWM Pump-Reservoir Combo
2 EK-CoolStream PE 240 radiators
EK black ZMT
4x Scythe GT 1850rpm fans
Misc Bitspower fittings I already had plus a few more I grabbed
EK CryoFuel Clear Premix

Here are a few of the build pics

Front rad/res/pump

While filling the loop the premix was really foamy and generally not clear. Overnight though it cleared up and there are no bubbles left

The bitspower fittings with the EK tubing were a tight fit. I managed to make them work, but my thumb was dead afterward.

IMG_4932.jpg

There was not enough clearance for the GT fans between the res and the top rad so I ordered 2 Noctua NF-A12x15 Chromax fans. I also needed a way to control everything.

I'm extremely happy with how the tubing turned out. Temps are so much better too. Running Cinebench R20 the 3900X would hit as high as 81-82C. Now it's not getting higher than 55C. It's boosting higher as well. Best of all though is the noise. Even with my fans and pump at full speed, the computer is quieter than the stock fans I was using.

My wiring is a nightmare so I'm going to make some shorter sleeved cables. I have red, white, gray and black sleeving. I was going to use a strand or two of red in there, but I think I might just go all black now. What do you guys think on sleeving color?

Hell yeah. I love that tubing. I tried so hard to get that in the size I need but Tygon don't make it any more.

Loving this dude.

Nice build, how you finding the EK Loop Connect ? Do you need to leave the software open in the taskbar or can you set and forget?

I don't know what it is about the black tube, but I like it better than hard line tubing.

I don't believe you can, but I haven't even hooked it up yet. Finally have time this afternoon so shutting my rig down after I type this and swapping the fans, installing the ek-connect and working on some sleeving.

Seeing builds like this just reminds me how sad it is Caselabs are gone. Lovely bit of kit mate!

Oh yeah.. Dude I had no issues doing up my BP fittings. I think it's a combination of the grippy tubing you are using and the thickness. That's why I gave up on 19mm hose it really, really made me angry.

That said grippy = good seal. It's just not so great for your thumbs lmao.

I also found that tubing varies wildly. Like, that XPSC green and black stuff I used was a hooer, whilst the Mayhem white stuff I used in someone else's build was ever so slightly smaller and very very easy to do up the fittings.

So I’m assuming by your post, that the EVGA 2080 Super Black Gaming GPU isn’t all that great?... As I’m considering it or the Gigabyte 2080 Windforce III. Only thing is that the EVGA one us like $10 more expensive, yet faster. But it doesn’t have a backplate, which is weird and bugs me. But since you wrote that for light duty it’s fine, but once gaming it’s loud.
Makes me lean more towards the Gigabyte one... Yet I noticed that yours is almost right next to a solid glas panel? How would it be right next to a fullt ventilated side panel, such as in the Dan Case A4 SFX case, which is the case I’m considering switching to. Although my current 1080 Ti Strix is to thick for that case at 2.5 slot.

Your thoughts and experience with your card would be much appreciated :)

Yeah, it really sucks that they are gone.

I tried pulling them apart, there was no way they were coming off. If the tube didn't tear first I'm pretty sure the connection could hold my weight.

The card is great, but during folding it got loud. It was most definitely starved for air though in my case having a window next to it instead of vents. That said, the GTX 1080 I had was much quieter even at full load during folding. It was a FTW version, those have better cooling than the base model EVGA cards.

I wasn't too concerned about not having a backplate as the PCB is black and half of it is covered by the SODIMM.2 card on my board.

Hmmblah, I just posted on EKWB Reddit with regards to the EK Loop Connect, the software crashes for me after an hour or two: https://www.reddit.com/r/EKWB/comments/fc7k2s/ekwb_ek_loop_connect/

Can you let me know if the software is stable for you ?

Are you using it for RGB lighting too? Perhaps try without the RGB if not already done.
I noticed iCue for me works well. But, the moment I try to have Division 2 configure the lighting to override iCue, i get FPS hangs and sometimes pc locks up

Not using RGB.

Not using RGB.

Boo. Hoped it was a simple RGB issue.

Amazing how there is some seriously bad software products on market that everyone is using

ASUS AI Suite (would lose profile and settings and revert to 100% fan speed and pump)
iCue, (crashing, glitches, freezing, bad lycn with ASUS software)
EK Connect

Thank god Aquasuite is on point with great software updates and control.

So by the sound of your post, the older Gigabyte 2080 Windforce cooler would be better in terms of noise, compared to the EVGA 2080 Super Black, during gaming etc. Due to the 3 fan cooler.
I don’t do anything heavier than that and gaming isn’t that heavy.

I think I have identified the source of the problem, I have disable USB powersaving in power profile (which is enable by default in windows) and the application is still running. Will report back if it crashes again.

***EDIT***

Still Crashing even after disabling usb powersaving in windows power profile

I bought the black knowing I was going to remove the cooler and slap a block on it. The heatsink itself is beefy, it was just at 100% gpu load in my case it was louder than the rest of my system.

It crashed for me overnight. It had been running about 9 hours, crashed at 3AM. I got the same errors in event viewer that you had.

Can you post in the reddit forum please, EKWB have replied to my ticket and are monitoring the thread , one guy doesnt have any crashes, waiting to hear what chipset he has, me & you have x570 :)

Oh okay, so in a more open/ventilated case, this might not have been such an issue then, you reckon?...

Also, just out of curiousity, did you perhaps clean up a few posts in your thread? Since I do remember asking someone a question regarding their L9a cooler. Totally understand why you may have cleaned up though, would just like to get in touch with that person in question though regarding his cooler.

Yes, I think airflow was the issue. Can't say for sure though as I never tried running with the side off.

I haven't touched any posts in this thread, maybe you posted in another thread?
