Sup, just a little help for my first self built PC needed here. Here's some info:

Budget: £500-600

Already have: Mouse (G500), Keyboard (Majestouch 2), Monitor (U2711), Headphones (DT990), HDD (Barracuda 1TB), Case (R4)

Will be using for media playback and gaming (Ocassional gamer, do not need to run games in extreme settings, mid to high will good fps will suffice)

Will be Overclocking

No watercooling

Already have OS

Not BTC mining

SSD would be nice

Cheap as possible would be best, even cheaper than budget would be great. Main things of concern is how much I need to spend on GPU to power a 2560x1440 monitor to run games decently with good settings. Do not need fancy features on motherboards / optical drives etc. Cheap but great products is the objective.

Was thinking going AMD for GPU because apparantly they give more fps for higher res monitors?

Also 8GB vs 16GB memory? Was thinking 8GB.

Hmm this seems similar to a mate of mines build, i would say for you to go ivybridge, something like this :

i5 3570k
ASUS P8Z77-V LK
Corsair CX600W
Corsair Vengeance LP 8gb
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
SanDisk 120Gb Extreme

Should come to around £500-£600

Also nice choice on the case and hdd, real nice case with loads of good features and i have the same hdd and hasn't let me down (yet, touch wood), plus its super fast. The ssd is really fast and you can grab one on ebay for £76.99, can't go wrong with the corsar PSU, it 80 plus and a solid unit. GPU wise you could go for either a gtx 660 or an AMD 7850, its your choice, personally i would go for the 660!!

Good luck with the build man, any more questions don't hesitate to ask!!

DT990s? As in the Beyerdynamics?

Tbh, no point in buying them unless you've got a decent soundcard and an amp if the soundcard doesn't have one built in.

gigabyte ga 990fx ud3- £106
amd 6350 - £103
amd hd7950 - £255
corsair value ram 8gb - £48
sandisk extreme 120gb - £81

total £605

I can second that graphics card. the 7870 Tahiti, is less than £200 and it runs games at pretty high quality on all the games i have, with really good frame rates [total lack of specifics there i realise ;)] (from my experience at least) can't vouch for 1440p but i'm sure it'd be fine. And it Overclocks really well too :)

tripp,
we do appreciate the help but the above post is pretty much a wreck to read.
please format it to a legible way to understand. or it will be deleted.

Will sort it out as soon as I am back to my desk deano

How about something like this for £478? I went with the Phenom II because theyre dirt cheap and you can put that money to other things. Went with an excellent 256GB solid state drive and an excellent power supply. The Gigabyte 990FX board is relatively cheap but still uses 8+2 power phase which will mean itll handle FX chips well so you can always upgrade to a 8320 or Steamroller if you ever want to and it wont be a problem. 7870XT is the best GPU on the market dollar for dollar and should do 2560x1440 very well.

fixed and revised some choices for you due to your monitor not being 1080p (you would need more vram)
