Monitor over Ethernet

Just a thought.
I have gigabit ethernet, as most of us probably do.
I have TV's, PC's, consoles and more all connected via ethernet.
I have seen several videos on HDMI over ethernet (Linus TT), but why can't we just encode video and send it directly to another device?

I mean, we do it already through Amazon Prime and Netflix of course. So why can't we just do it now PC to PC, or PC to TV, or PC to console or any combination.

I have 2 PC's upstairs, one is a Jellyfin server, the other is a linux server with a LAMP stack.

But that get me to thinking how much easier it would be to see the screens downstairs.

Obviously there's VNC and yes that's one way, but what if I want to send the video from any device to my TV in the living room?
Example, my PS5 is in my main work area, but what if mates come around (it gets cramped in here pretty quickly) and we play some PS5 games, I have to move the PS5 to the living room and it's an immense ball-ache.

How much life would be easier if I could just simply send that video to the TV in the living room, then we can all sit in comfort and play, no messing about.

HDMI is after all just digital, the medium used is just a cable, specialised of course. But still nothing so special that that data couldn't be broadcast via ethernet.

I have a bluray reader/writer and most 4K movies are around the 70MB per second mark, with 10 bit HDR and up to 7.1 channels of audio. So ethernet can manage that without an upgrade.

Is the reason nobody does it because it's nobody thought about doing it?
I don't know, I know there are severe content restrictions especially with copyright content. But PC upstairs to the living room TV is not hurting anyone. Or console to the living room? No biggie!

There are ways and means to do it, we do it to twitch and youtube all the time.
I suppose you could encode the screen and create a UDP stream and then VLC on any device will decode it. Obviously in certain circumstances you'd need keyboard and mouse input, but there are work arounds for those too.

I'm coming from a place of ignorance, I don't know much about HDMI and video broadcasting over ethernet.

But I imagine at some point in time we all thought life would be easier if only we could just do this, even if it's only once or twice, just having the ability almost guarantees it's uptake.
