[Mach I] Leak in the hose, what are my options?

Hi,

Was building a new rig and all of a sudden I felt a wet drop on my Prommie's hose. After sliding down the "panty" I noticed a bit of ice on the hose!

I immediatly shutted down the PC and removed the ice. When further examining, the hose had a hole as big as a dot --> .

I turned it back on and gradually (after 10 minutes) it turned more white and got a bit more wet. It still cools at -40 though.

What are my options? Is my prometheia dead? Can I install a new hose? Will sealing kit be enough to seal the hole?

Have a feeling this joke will cost me alot :(

Not sure i had ice form on my hose every now and than and its still been working fine for about 6 months or so now.

just let it all dry out and cover the hole tightly with some seal string. Should do the trick, then just keep an eye on it.

Thanks alot everyone. Feel more relieved with the possitive answers.

The reason why I think it isnt the mixture (what Highland3r meant with adding insulation? Not even sure what insulation is since my native tongue is foreign) is because it happend after I connected my prommie on my new rig. On the other hand.. when I removed the cooling block from my old rig (been running for a year) the screws in the copper head were extremly rusty.... I wonder...

The position the hose now has is a little bended but the only possition possible. I'll add a picture of it.

Why I hadn't used sealing kit is because I was affraid it might freeze or little bits (really tiny) might get into the machine. Thats very unlikely?

If you had a leak, you would be able to hear it hissing. It would also take longer to pull down the temps.

Think it's safe to say just add some more insulation and you should be ok. Just turn everything off, and listen REALLY closely to the area near the evap and the area where the suction line comes out of the mach unit. If there is a hissing sound, then worry.

Pics and no hissing.

Some pic tures...

The blue area is where there was ice. The red circle marks the place where the tiny hole is. Its barely visible but its there. Maybe there is a leak in the hose but not in the "pipelines"? Would explain that its condensing....

I hear no hissing whatsoever.. you mention insulation as well. Im not sure what it is. (yea.. ill use the search or google :) )

Insulation is the black tube around the suction line :) SOme seal string would patch it up nicely i think :)

On a side note where are you from?

The netherlands,

is my english so horrible?! :D

I get it now.. Wasnt sure how the suction line and insulation stuff worked. I was under the impression it was some kind of foamhose arround the suction line.

So the insulation is the only thing thats breached then... Does that give a sign that I've bended it all to far? (i had posted pics a few posts earlier, maybe sounds n00bish but i -REALLY- dont want to destroy my beautifull set)

yeah I wouldn't worry about it then. if it's still cooling and especially if it's still cooling under load then you're fine.

For the insulation, the best thing to get is some armaflex or virginia insulation tape. Seal string doesn't work great. You can pick it up on Ebay, but if you have a refrigeration supplier out there then you're set.

Otherwise if you really struggle just send me a PM and I can send you a little tape. Buying a roll is a little pricey but a little piece is nothing really.

Cheers

Thats a very kind offer from you :)

I'll check arround here if I can find something usefull and post my progress. Think i'll manage! For a minute there I really thought my prommie was a goner

Speaking of "under load". I use smartguardian to see my CPU temperature. He tells me its 232 degrees celcius. When I check it in the bios of my mobo its -22 and when i check the front-side LED its -35/-40 (it was -47 yesterday night amazingly enough!)

I suppose smartguardian can't measure sub-zero and im guessing the temperatures are about right here?

At the moment I have an Opteron 165 (with alloy "case" (the tab on top of the processor which holds the processor batch and production number)) im planing to raise from 1,8 GHz to 3 GHz.

Keep ya'll updated and thanks alot! :D

Use MBM5 with the NF4 files off DFI-Street for monitoring temps mate. Fantastic program and takes the readings direct off the mobo IC's :)

I forget the formula for Smart Guardian but theres a way to work it out even from their weird readings

I *think* its 250 - temp reading = your temp in minus temps

So 250 - 232 would work out at -18,

True, -2x is a bit low but I didnt remove the metal cover on top of the processor. (The metal cover which holds the batch/week number. See pic)

It is said when You remove it you gain 10 degrees celcius so that would mean i'd be hitting -32/-38 whereas my prometheia cools at -35/-40

The process in removing the cover is tricky though, you need to remove the glue with a sharp little razor knife and im not too keen on doing that. Besides that.. those 10 degrees aren't gonna make a real difference are they?

they might make a small amount of difference but you then have to modify the headkit to sit lower done to make good contact with the core. Or you can use a 3mm thick piece of copper.
