Little Advice Needed

Ive currently got my Newcastle 3500+ up to 2.53ghz at the moment, 230*11. My memory is on a devider and running at 180mhz and HTT at X4. This is a reasonable clock Im quite happy with, but im wondering. Would it be worth using a 10 multi seeing if i can get the FSB up more? At >230 *11 super pi 1 or 8m give errors.

Do you know how far you can push your memory? If it was me, i'd try somethign like 250x10 1:1, but it all depends on your ram.

Also, what memory dividers does your mobo provide you with?

Ive tested my ram upto a pethetic 215 and dont want to go much hight than 220-30 as its cheap and crap. Its on a divider of whatever 200:166 is simplifyed. I can use 200:200, 200:166, 200:133. I dont know what they are simlifyed.

Give 250x10 a go on your current divider. If my maths serves me correctly, that will give you 207.5mhz on your memory, which, as you say is within its overclock limits.

At that FSB/Mem speed, it should give you a nice performance boost over ur current config.

Ok now it seems my multi is locked totaly, not just up. Just my luck. I thought that all the Athlon 64 were unlocked down? or could it be the BIOS?

Wirelessly posted (Nextel BB7520: BlackBerry7520/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

What mobo mate? Some of the 754 boards (actually... Iirc most 754 baords) don't let u change the multi from the factory setting. U might be able to fix the prob with a bios update but highly doubtful.

I just remember there was a socket series with really spotty support for changing the multi and I believe it was 754.

Im using the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Frag. According to the bios updates theres been nothing that will help me.

In the bios it comes up what ive set it to (10) but its still showing as 2530mhz rather than 2300. Everest UE and CPU-Z confirming that its still 11. Does anyone know if AMD did lock any of there 64s?

Alrighty then, nuke everything I just said :)

Your problem is very strange. AFAIK AMD never hardlocked any of the A64's. You may however have a magically glitched chip (it's happened before). Unfortunately it's glitched for the worse, some cases they've been known to have unlocked multi's both up and down.

Your mobo should be fine with changing the multi. Reviews on that specific board are good and have verified that it's a decent clocking board for the price (which presumably that means you could change the multi).

Ive come to the decision ive got a locked chip. Ive got a feeling its a quite early chip, so they may not have decided to unlock them down at the point this one was made.

Thanks for the help guys.

That's too bad mate... Pick up another chip then perhaps? Hell it might end up being a better clocker (doubtful, early rev. chips usually seem to be the best but who knows!)

How much Id like to frag, but im saving up for a 7800GT. I think 2.5ghz isnt that bad, just the RAM only running at 180mhz.

Nope 2.5 is a pretty darn good speed. Your RAM at 180 worries me a bit though, there's so much more potential to be had in that system if you could run 1:1.

Well following your advice ive got 2420mhz (220*11) on 1:1. Stable as of 2 SuperPi 1Ms, a 4M and a 3Dmark05 run through (the CPU tests HAMMER my chip on that). Temps toped out at 38degC. I think ill leave it at that:) . Cheers.

There ya go mate, now you're getting the most performance possible.

If you were to run SuperPi side by side between what ur at now and what you were at your old score would get straight pwned even though your clocks were higher.

about 2 seconds shorter lol. Not quite owned frag but better. I noticed my frames hovering around 110-120 insted of 100-110 in CS: S however (playing single player, Me vs 3 bots).

2 seconds in super pi = :0wned:

Especially at a LOWER clock speed... Very very pwned.
