I agree with both of you. I have a "basic" (i guess that's what they are callin them now) phone that does not do any internet that was made 3 years ago. Just text and call. That's all i need and i don't have to pay a required monthly internet fee like the smartphones which can get up to 100$ easily.

Social networking apps are a waist of time on any phone. So much drama happens on there(where i live) and it's utterly pathetic. Why would i read shit i don't care about? I ask my friends why they even have smartphones with facebook etc. and they say mainly to keep up with the drama and know whats going on...

They waist almost 90$-100$ for that reason every month. Just like the hundreds of other people i know or see. Most have iphones unfortunately and thats really all they use it for. Sad but true.

+1 for that , personally I think it's sad that you can't hardly find just a basic phone without all the apps, I don't text or go on the net with my phone so I don't need all that stuff. I think it's kind of funny to see these people that live on their phone. I guess it's an age thing , but how many people remember phone booths?

Never had one and i think i stated that earlier. Also in that quote i was replying to easily live without one.

well you can't really miss what you never really used. i did use smartphones and decided i have no need for them and can just stick to my "dumbphone", it's somewhere between smartphone and normal phone really.

Personally I use my smartphone for quite a lot of stuff.

1. Keeping me entertained in waiting rooms
2. Keeping me entertained while traveling
3. Very good GPS for in the car
4. Email for Work and Personal anywhere
5. Tethering its 3G to my Laptop anywhere in the country
6. Scanning barcodes in stores to instantly compare prices with online e-tailers
7. Checking weather before going out
8. Setting alarms and reminders for all kinds of things, even just a timer for cooking

Those are just the everyday tasks that I do. I do at least 2 of those tasks every day with my Smart Phone. Some of those can be done with a feature phone but not all of them. I really love my Smart Phone it has enriched my life, saves me lots of time and makes me more efficient.

It's a lot of fun too, lots of games and I do enjoy the social aspect. I can text (using iMessage) my friends all over the world for £0.00. Including Images and Video straight to their phones. Removes world boundaries and high international fees which is convenient.

The phone I have cost £10 from asda and I use it as a phone, Text and alarm clock.
I would love a smart phone and have been eyeing up the Nexus 4 BUT there is always the off chance that it could slip out of my pocket or some such annoyance and then a £200-300 is gone were as thats no so bad if it happens to a £10 phone.
My own logical way of telling myself not to spend stupid money on a telephone and put it towards my rig instead :p

Maybe you should just buy one of the older smart phones off ebay for <£99 the features are all the same just they are slower.

Well, until you've used one for a while and integrated it into your everyday life, you really can't understand/appreciate why smart phones are as popular as they are :)

I have a HTC Wilfdfire S and it's complete crap. I see no reason to upgrade though given it works as it should.

As for Apple being inventive? We do have them to thank for bringing things to the forefront (like massive resolutions) and of course we do have the power to buy what we want and not buy what we don't so I don't see why people feel the need to continually bang on and complain about them.

Not true. I use my friends phones when i need to. Which is rare and everything i need a phone to do my basic one can do except it's slower. Not worth the money at all. I used to use my itouch like a smartphone. Then i got to a point where i just remembered everything i needed to do or what was coming up. Haven't used it for gaming for over a year so the mobile powerhouse is useless. I go on to PC selling sites just to check for good prices and if i happen to find one i get on my PC and buy from there.

Technology made by apple, microsoft, intel, arm, powervr, unix and etc have made life so much easier that i actually despise it. Making people think they really need all these gadgets to get things done. Apple has just become the most popular of the bunch and got to that position by exploiting companies and sueing them claiming they own everything with the Apple logo on it. Even if they didn't manufacture the product.

Well, yes it is true. You can't review a smart phone without owning it and using it in replace of what you have.
Borrowing a friends phone rarely, is not enough to judge the entire smart phone market.

Agree.

It's not like you're going to grab your friends phone and put your own phone numbers in it or your email accounts or apps.

I don't think a smart phone is for everybody but you can't judge it just by using a friends one. It'd be like using someone elses MP3 Player and saying ah I don't like it, it doesn't even have my songs on it!

Exactly, smart phones are personal devices. It's all about customisation and tailoring it for you.

apple is just the dumb rich kid on the block who beats up or intimidates the smart kids into making them tech or selling them their idea.
the scumbags go around saying they invented everything under the sun.
hmmm their os is a linux distro, thunderbolt is intel, firewire was from texas instruments, 30pin multi port - motorola. the list goes on and on.
law suits that should never see a court room. they have lost their minds.
maybe the mini display port counts as their doing. but thats not really innovating, thats just making something smaller. and siri..... well..... yeah..... siri.... :banghead:
btw im not loyal to any company. but when i see crazed masses waiting outside apple stores for a phone that is no different really from the last. makes me sick.

I know how you feel. What annoys me even more is when people brag about the tech specs of the ipads/iphones but yet they have no idea what it means or what it even indicates the product is capable of.

I am not loyal as well but when it comes to Apple i have never liked them(even when i knew nothing of computers) and they just come off as ***holes to me. Which seems to be true.

i know it's a bit off topic, but it fits so great. "ermahgerd the PS4 is gunna be so great, 1.84TFLOPS dude, 1.84 TFLOPS, your PC is so gonna get destroyed".
