I think the people getting desperate in this discussion are the anti-Apple people :/

Seems like hate for the sake of hating. "I own a generic PC and an Android smartphone so i have to hate Apple"

At least thats how it appears to me...

Don't feel like quoting Vicey because of the long post. So i am referring to him the whole time.

You call me ignorant. Well see this is ironic considering you are. I don't use an apple product? Way to assume you know everything, i happen to use an Itouch4 and i hardly ever use it anymore because it's a waist of time. My PC does more than what it does.

Nitpicky? No i said ask people with computer knowledge not the average person. So your argument here is getting desperate and stretching it there.

I point out apple because they are sueing like crazy over the lamest possible things such as curved edges in laptops or tablets looking like theirs in the slighest possible way. They want 100% dominance in the world. I hope they realize the US will break them apart if they become a monopoly because they are illegal.

No one cares if they have 146billion in the bank? Great for them! Why not help out with charitys or people in need if you have so much money? There's a thought.

Ok many people want an Iphone. Welll if apple keeps doing what they are now then good bye and all those Iphones will become worthless.

When I said you were ignorant it was in relation to their UNIX marketing. Which you were as you had no idea about it and accused them of not mentioning it.

I have no comment on the rest of your post.

i'm not really desperate. higher price, lower value, heaviest abuser of the patent system, restricted platform. enough reasons for me.

Higher price, lower value.

Yeah thats fair enough. Though i doubt any other company would send someone to your door the next day to replace a handset. I think a lot of people overlook the after sales support when considering "value"

Heaviest abuser of the patent system

I'm pretty sure it's unfair to say that. Maybe the most documented/reported "abuse" of the patent system.

Restricted platform

In what respect?

they tried to sue for 3billion dollars for a damn shape, nobody ever did anything like that.

restricted platform in the meaning of they don't want you to change stuff. i.e. no micro sd support for their tablets/phones and OSX can't run a lot of programs as well.

I've already said what i think about that. Hate the game not the player.

Yeah i hear ya on that. Even though iOS is my platform of choice i would still like to see some form of expansion. Then again i read Apple doesn't make a lot of money on the 16GB variant of it's iPhone, that's why they charge so much extra if you want a larger capacity.

and OSX can't run a lot of programs as well.

That's just wrong. I guarantee theres a version or an alternative app for anything and everything. The only place OS X lacks is in the gaming area, but thats already starting to change (XD). The only time i find myself without an alternative is if the software is something like an xBox flashing utility. If thats the case then theres 3 practical options... 1, run it in a wrapper (WINE or similar). 2, run it in a VM. 3, dual boot.

I've been Mac (OSX actually) for 7+ years now and i won't look back. It all started when i ran a "live" type DVD of Tiger (OS X10.4) on my PC at the time.
I fell in love with it and got the first MacBook pro when i could. That machine is still running great by the way ;) ... Cant say the same of ANY other laptop anyone in my house has owned.

I have used OSX for Photoshop and music production for game sound files and in this regard it did function fantastically and I liked the overall layout was certainly interesting seeing as the only OS I had used up to then had been Microsof, however allot of older games/programs etc I just couldnt get to work, for me the advantages did not outweigh the disadvantages which is all that should really matter when choosing anything really whether it be an OS,Smartphone or PC component manufacturer

As for the company itself I dont have anything else to say other than its a massive international corporation, there all slimey, underhanded scum with little to no regard for workers rights there only interest is profit, but such is life in this society we choose to live in so I will not complain while I choose to be a part of it.

alternative. which runs like crap. + the hardware is usually crap so gaming doesnt work well (or ofc you pay three times the price).
hate the game? when some dude breaks another dudes leg at football we blame football but not the guy? apple treats everyone who isn't 100% on their side like crap. they sued an university because their logo was an apple and ruined them ffs.
also from what i've heard the newer versions of osx should be rather bad as well.
the longevity would be a valid point, but only if i would want to stick to my stuff for 7 years. when you treat your windows system well you can run that for years as well. also why not a linux destribution instead of apple? you don't pay the stupid price, you have all the customizability and you won't be treated like a kid by PC users.
/edit
if you would run a hackintosh i could understand, but a mac? no way.

Come on, really?

I notice in your signature you're running an AMD FX-4100. Some people (Not me) might laugh at you for using that in a world dominated by Core i7's - Can't you see how you're being demeaning while being in what some other people would consider a kid category of PC Processors?

Again, I'm not saying that, I'm just trying to make you realise how really silly you sound talking about how Mac users get treated like kids by PC users. It's really ridiculous too, laughable even.

yea, but i am getting rid of that cpu soon and replace it with a haswell i7 with a custom waterloop, does your mac have that? + buying a prebuilt rig is still worse than having that terrible cpu.

My Mac being a laptop doesn't have a custom water loop no. But Apple did sell a water cooled PowerMac G5 in June 2004 to Late 2005. Since discontinued.

And again, I wasn't laughing at you about your CPU, I think the FX-4100 is a fine processor. But I do think you could be a little less confrontational when talking to other posters, that comment about Mac users being treated like kids really irked me.

A lot of the stuff you've said in this thread has been really strange in general. I don't really understand all this chest thumping about Apple, are you guys not happy enough with your non-Apple products that you have to dump on them? Is this the "Audi drivers are all t***s" saying but for computers?

As someone that owns tons of products from all the major companies I find it really strange, all of the products are really good. It's like that saying, everything is great and nobodies happy.

nah, the fx-4100 is garbage.
this is a thread about apple being terrible, so i don't really know what you expected. all i did was giving my two cents, i don't care if you buy a mac, i'm just saying that it isn't worth it. and what i meant by apple users get treated like kids applies to PC as well, i mean c'mon, you get treated like a kid when you show up with a prebuilt PC and try to show off (i was talking about the desktop macs, should have made that more clear). the only thing you guys appreciate about mac seems to be the OS, so why not build a hackintosh and not pay for the apple?

It's more than just the OS, the build quality is very good. My MacBook Pro from 2009 for example my current machine, I use it every single day and it still looks brand new. There is none of that weird grease stain on the track pad because it's made of glass instead of plastic. The keys don't rub off because they are laser etched etc - These touches are what make the hardware worth while for me.

I don't buy Apple desktops because I can build those myself. If I could build a laptop myself I probably wouldn't buy a MacBook Pro.

it's not like every laptop besides apple's are made out of plastic.
you can get all that stuff cheaper with a more versatile OS. the only reason i see for prefering OSX over windows would be Adobe products, which you probably don't use with a laptop.

Well actually until very recently with the advent of the "Ultrabook" Apple was pretty much the only manufacturer making their notebooks out of Aluminium. But it's not just the Aluminium enclosure it's the glass trackpad, the magsafe connector, the fact that the charging brick is 1/3rd the size of competing manufacturers.

You buy Apple you get quality. It costs a lot yes, but if you get something comparable to one from a PC manufacturer they cost a lot too. You can't right now even buy a notebook with a resolution as high as the 15" MacBook Pro and in a month and a half that notebook will already be a year old.

It's hard to get the same quality as a MacBook Pro at any price. And I'm talking quality here, not performance specifications. I don't need a gaming GPU in my notebook.

And you can run Windows on a Mac so really it's the ultimate versatility. I can run OS X, Windows and Linux on my MacBook Pro with Triple Boot using Apples Boot Camp feature. Or I can run Windows and Linux in a Virtual Machine. Doing that with OS X on a PC isn't as easy due to Apple not supporting other peoples hardware.

But yeah I do actually use Adobes products on my PC and my Mac. I use Photoshop, Illustrator and some other products I can't discuss.

I prefer OSX to Windows because I find it easier to use for general use. For gaming I have my main PC/Windows partition on my laptop, but I spend the majority of my day on OSX. Why? It's just personal preference.

Yeah I feel pretty much the same way.

And I'd want to add that I don't personally think Apple competes well in the desktop space. The Mac Pro is lousy hasn't been upgraded in ages, the iMac while pretty is not upgradable and that to me is a very important aspect to a desktop machine. We are willing to make concessions about upgradability on Notebooks but not on Desktops.

This is one of the reasons I choose to build my own systems and use Windows on those systems. OS X has very poor hardware support and a very small catalogue of games due to Apples reluctance to include even halfway decent graphics in their desktop machines.

i found the retina display quite funny. didn't samsung use to produce it for them? also for what in the hell do you need that resolution on a notebook, the hardware can't handle it well anyways.
i don't see the aluminium, the glass trackpad and the charging brick be worth that much money and it's certainly not the OS, afaik that is dirt cheap.
i don't really rub my laptop all over my body, so i prefer to spend that huge amount of money i save from not buying a mac into a laptop which most certainly does better. i haven't really looked into the whole hackintosh thing, but since their hardware is basically the same as in every other laptop/PC it should be doable.

The Retina display is gorgeous. It is incredibly crisp and the GPU in the Retina MacBook Pro runs it fine. You can even game on it if you wanted to. Sure it wont blow the doors off anything but it runs smooth as silk.

I'm not 100% sure who makes the Retina Display but I think it is Samsung and LG. Something to keep in mind though is that Samsung is a bit like Virgin. There are something like 100 companies all using the Virgin brand even though they have different CEO's and chairmen and Richard Brandson doesn't run them. It's a similar story with Samsung. What this means is, just because the company using Samsungs brand makes a display (For Apple) doesn't mean that Display can be used by Samsungs Laptop subsidiary. It's all very complicated but Samsung has hundreds of companies under their umbrella that make everything from fridges to cargo container ships.

Having the Retina display on a Retina MacBook Pro is just like having a 720p or a 1080p Android phone. Everything just looks crisper, curves are less pixelated. And it is an IPS panel so the viewing angles are 170 degrees.

And about the price, I'm not trying to convince you to buy one, you can spend your money however you want. The MacBook Pro is great for me, it may not be for you. I value quality features like 8 hour batter lifes, magsafe, glass trackpad and screen coverings. The aluminium wears quite well and is very durable I prefer it to plastic. Again, just my opinion, not suggesting you buy one.

EDIT:// Sorry one thing I forgot, in your post you mentioned how it should be possible to run OS X on PC hardware. It is possible, but it isn't just plug and play. Their systems boot from EFI but it has certain strings that the OS loads for features that normal PC UEFI and BIOS do not have. Stuff Apple includes on their machines. So when you want to use OS X on a PC you do need to use some extra tools between and due to OS X not having drivers for hardware that Apple does not ship you may find it not working properly with your Ethernet Networking, Sound, WiFi Networking, Webcam and so on.

One of the biggest issues Hackintosh users have is DSDT, without it you cant use Speedstep or Sleep States. So your PC is running at its highest performance setting all the time, wasting power and creating excess noise. There are solutions to the DSDT issue (like most things with Hackintoshes there are solutions) but it is time consuming and not every motherboard is supported.

I created this thread so we could discuss if Apple was or has ever been an inventive company. I should have known someone like Vicey would come here guns blazing:ar: Defending them at all costs with an excuse at every corner.

I never said i did not like Apple. I do NOT like the fact they are a shady company(reasons have been stated earlier in thread) and are holding the industry back. IMHO i believe Apple needs to actually work with other companies and not sue them after they are finished and wanting to claim everything is their own. Those are a few reasons i put them down.

Oh and Vicey, mine as well not even argue with me if you just want to call me ignorant and ignore the main part of the disagreement. Lame but it is what is.

I think we need a Apple vs Windows war graphic like we do AMD and Intel? Would be cool:cool:
