I am oldskool.

What have we told you about not drinking the tasty-looking coolant?! :p

Covers are starting to look really good. Board looks like-minded clean. Noice!

Oh *hicc* az I not sposed to *hicc* drinks it?

Just fitted the front, that was a test. Want the res so bad lol

"like-minded clean"...that's "like-new clean" but with added irritating auto-correct *sigh*

Have you got a res on order or are you making one?!

On order. This one.

£8 from HK but it's taking forever to arrive. This week hopefully. :)

So instead of soldering up loads of fan to molex I just bought this for £10 instead.

Just need to make a couple of 3-4 pin fan adapters.

Last night I fitted the front.

The old cathode ballast used to go in the case but I changed it and modded it to fit into the front area.

And what old skool PC would be worth its salts if it didn't have a Boomslang :D

Yup, hiding in the bottom of my wardrobe was my 2007 Boomslang CE. I got it from OCUK ten years ago ! It's a little tatty but I tested it last night and everything works as it should :)

OK so I feel like crap today. Aching, runny nose and sore throat. Have taken paracetamol. I have been on the boring jobs. Things like shortening the front USB cable because it was nearly a foot too long, soldering, braiding etc. I also made a 3 pin fan to two 4 pin for the Grid +. Any way, the wiring is boring so I didn't take pics of that but here I am testing out the lights (the head LED and cathodes) as well as the fan converter/splitter I made.

It just goes to show how disgracefully over priced water cooling gear is. I've not got it yet to vouch on quality but plastic is plastic tbh. The pump I paid £9 for last October is still going strong.

OK guys, time to trigger the old skool feelings again. Remember these?

Bought that in "As new" condition for £7. That is why I wanted the game port on the sound card :)

Wow, classic SideWinder! I remember having the joystick for FS2002. Nice find :)

That IS old-school...it's got a wire! Haven't had to worry about game ports (more a mouse and keyboard kind of gamer to be honest) since I fitted one to a Shuttle SFF PC many years ago for a dabble with MIDI. Remember that with fondness (please substitute more unsuitable vocabulary for your self) since I had to cut and splice each of the 15 tiny wires in the header by hand to extend it by only an inch or two to fit. Ah wireless, thou art about as reliable as the English summer....but so convenient!

I'm still using wired controllers. My memory is terrible and I am always forgetting to charge things. A controller would be no different tbh.

Now to figure out if it's possible to use a modern steering wheel on Direct X 3 and Direct X 5 games !

OK so I crumbled. I tracked the res this morning and it was still in Shanghai yesterday.

I'll just sell it on once it arrives. Shouldn't have any problems shifting it and charging postage on top.

First side panel complete. I hate man flu.. Now I am sweating and feeling dizzy AF :(

I've also ordered a meter long strip of UV LEDs.

eztT1Q4.jpg

I got them with their own power supply as I am worried I will over load the 300w one I am using.

Nicely polished to the point that it'll show up any [new] scratch, dust etc. You have made a massively impressive rod for your own back there ;) :p

Mind the contacts on that LED strip. The non-waterproof version like that has exposed contacts between LEDs and while you're moving it about the case to check positioning it etc, it's entirely possible to short them out against the case and take out a set of three (usually) LEDs. Obviously I wouldn't be stupid enough to do that myself! *cough*

Will do thanks man. Didn't know that, tight gits. Yeah a black Alienware is a beautiful thing but cleaning it isn't. That was why when I had the choice of a black ALX Pred 2.1 or a silver one I chose silver. So long as you don't touch it you are usually OK. Just wipe the dust off with a cloth. I do have an external power button, will take a look at that in a minute and see if it will look like dog toffee. If it doesn't I will get onto routing that. Problem with this Predator 1 is that the power button is inside the door, so you must open it, meaning you need to touch it all of the time. On the Pred 2.1 the head is the power button.

Problem - mirror like black case that you shouldn't touch. To power it on, however, you must open the door by pressing here where it says "push".

In order to access the power button hnyar.

The solution, fit an external power button I can put on the desk. Just one issue, it came with no splitters so I had to make my own.

Which then goes to hnyar.

Cool beans :D

Might have to copy that idea. Not got a high-gloss case but one day I am going to brain myself on the edge of the desk turning it on!
