How To Efficiently Flush A Rad

interesting way to do it. Personally I do something similar to this. I have an old DCC that I use to do the same thing his doing except I don't use a filter and instead I let the debris collect in to the bottom of the bucket while the pump feeds from the top. Because the bucket is deep and the debris sinks it works just as well as what his doing. I think the filter is actually not needed from what I've witnessed doing this myself.

Hmm good idea I can't believe I didn't think of that :/ I have an old XSPC bay res pump combo, it may work very well with this since it can be submerged in water

sell fish tank pump at b&m for like £8 I'll need to get someone to "accidently" break one soi can get it on write off lol

I have a pump i got at the local hardware store its a 300gph pond pump plus I have extra tubing laying about so i just hook it up this way and flush it out best part is the pump is submersable so when it comes to final flushing with DI water I just fill a jug with DI put pump in bottom and have it pump thru and exit into empty sink refilling DI as needed til I feel the tap water is all out then i run it for an hour or so then rinse and repeat once or twice more then reassemble bleed leak test and whallah shes back up and running.

Matter of fact I'll be doing this tomorrow as my new tubing gets here and i can add in my second flashed 6970 to my loop for water cooled goodness in XFIRE

I shouldn't even tell you the method I used

I had never seen it done and never even heard that it was necessary but I have a little common sense so I just almost filled it up with distilled water and shook it a lot and then emptied it and did that three times

Good to know how to do this when I put up my new rad in June...

At-least you didn't just use tap water. I saw on another forum yonks ago where a guy did that and his loop was full of green algae in a month.

I do use tap water for the initial flushing with a small amount of vinegar but that is followed by several flushes with DI to make sure all tap water is out. I've never grown anything in my loops so I'm sure i get it all out

I thought of using tap water but that thought went away in 5 secs. I just need some cheap pump now because last night I made a 5l tank for flushing my rad and I am trying to get some idea on making some kind of filtering device but do you know If you can get a second hand pump somewhere on the web? There is no store in Iceland where you can get water cooling supplies and I really can't afford a new pump just for flushing...

yeah he used the tap as his pump lol just hooked a hose to it and turned it on good stream of fresh water to flush it with.

omg... In Iceland the tap water is very clean but I would worry about all the silicon that we have in the water...

I'm a noob but I would never think of using tap water

tap water causes algae?

in most civilised countries we chlorinate our water, this usually stops algae growth. Besides, if you have a biocide in your loop i'd think that should do the job
