Hi evry1 any help on the following subject much appreciated. heres the problem: I have just purchased a samsung le26r74bdx TV however when i plug my laptop in with the VGA cabel (TV has vga input) the TV will not pick it up. However, if i plug a different laptop in and select PC from the list of inputs on the TV menu(this was previously greyed out and unselectable) it works perfectly, and i am able to select PC. I can then unplug the vga and put it back into my original laptop and the picture is perfect. However if i switch it back onto TV or Xbox i can no longer select PC unless i use the other laptop again. the display adapter is listed in device manager as "VIA/S3G unichrome pro IGP. I have been on to fujitsu siemens website(laptop manufacturer) and downloaded and reinstalled correct graphics card drivers. also checked samsung website there are no drivers for the TV.

Hi kalintos and welcome to OC3D :)

When using an external screen on most laptops you need to press a key combination to activate the vga port on the back of the laptop. The key combo is normally FN+F5 (function key + F5 key).

I'm no expert on laptops so if this doesn't help one of the other guys may have some suggestions for ya.

hi thx for the welcome and advice. You are right it is Fn+F5 however this doesn't work (unfortunately). however once i select the pc setting from the menu and swap the vga leads the picture appears straight away on the tv. if i go onto the menu on the tv the PC option is selected but still greyed out even tho the picture is ok on the TV!!

Hmm, well after reading your previous post a few more times i'd certainly be pointing the finger at your laptop as it works fine with your other laptop.

Have you checked the display properties to see if there are any settable options (Right click on desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced). Failing that, maybe calling Fujitsu support to see if they have any ideas?

ok the number is on the website checked that earlier. i have purchased extended warranty from the retailer (pc world) so i may just go through them as it is just over a year old so i assume the manufacturers warranty has expired. What do you think. Thanks again.

good luck using a PCworld warrenty, theyre about as useful as a chocolate teapot :(

how old is the CRT monitor? their detection method and circuitry tends to be a lot simpler

lol ok. the monitor is a (fair) few years old. accidentally i poured a glass of coke over the laptop a week after i bought it. i cleaned it up with WD 40 and told them it wouldn't start and i didnt know why! gimme a brand new one on the spot!!

I live by caerleon, on the edge of newport county.

Do you have control over your refresh rate, resolution and DPI if you rightclick on desktop and go properties -> settings -> advanced?

yes it is currently set at 60hz 96dpi and 1024 x 768(i think), i have checked the manuals for compatible resolutions and adjusted accordingly. If i swap the leads once PC is selected on the TV the picture is perfect.
