I can only get little bits and pieces done in the month. God help me when the new cards and Icy comes out! I'll be broke!

Nope, no LCD one these ones. I will be getting another fan controller soon and slapping it through like tha tone in the previous pics. Now everything is nice and lined up the second one should be a breeze to go through. I've got to think of a way to have the slot loading DVD drive, without being too brash. I'm not amazing with a rotarty tool, I'm good enough, but I'm not that confident in cutting a nice, straight and most importantly thin groove. I may have to make a jig up out of wood or something to cut along to ensure it is nice and straight!

that u-pol acid etch 8# is no halfords special and £10 is cheap for that. ive seen them selling £19

as for the pickled paint that could be for a number of reason like you said cold weather being one of them. i take it you never used that acid etch primer on the fans? as its a bare metal primer. as for the metal parts reacting with the etch primer id say that they were not clean or there may have been some old surface finished left on there.

i see you have been soaking you wet and dry paper first (not many people do that unless told). as for for applying paint a tip that might help to stop the paint from reacting is not to let it go to a full cure between coats and then allow it to go to a full cure after you have put your last coat of primer on. dont let the colour full cure before applying the lacquer or it may not stick (leaving the colour tacky and applying lacquer will let the thinners in the lacquer softern the colour up again and let them mix giving a better finish)

also 2500grit is way to fine to be using to scratch up the surface and to use on top of a primer surface. you would be better off with some 400grit paper so you leave the surface a little keyed up for the paint to stick to. you could use scotchbrite pads but they wont make the surface smooth they will just key it up for you

Thanks for the advie mate. I'm not the best at painting stuff, I think I've got some scotch-brite pads, I'll be sure to use them in the future.

no worries. ive painted quite a few cars and bits and i hate it when you have to redo things. like last year august bank holiday weekend spent saturday (from 7am till 2am) masking and paint a camper van to come back in on sunday to find it was a gloss black finish and not a matt black as the matting agent had go to a gel in the paint and not done its job.

i did make a painting guide for another forum i could try and find it and maybe post it here for you guys to

That would be epic. I didn't let the last batch of stuff, like the fan supports and PCI brackets dry after each coat and using a heat gun helped as well I think.

this is gonna look very nice, love black and white, especially with the white grill lit up with some white leds XD but isn't there already a lian li case with the optical bays that way round?

I think so, but its like £350, which i didn't have at the moment, plus its got an odd layout for watercooling. I should have a little update tomorrow fingers crossed regarding the reservoir and fans.

Sorry for lack of updates. Money is tight as its Christmas and all. Fingers crossed will have some more rads and stuff to be mounting after the new year!

I got my hands on an Aquatube from Aquacomputer and started making a retaining bracket out of some electrical channel material, its a tough steel so it should be able to hold the full res. I am going to cut a slot out and bolt it in, I'll try and do it tomorrow and do some photos as I can't explain it for toffee! lol

I got some acrylic cut to size for the fan grills. 240 x 120mm 4mm black acrylic.

And managed to get most of the fan frame supports nearly done.

I've narrowed the RAL colours down. I was thinking, 'Traffic Black,' exterior with a few bits of 'White Aluminium' inside? Let me know what you think.

That is exactly the combo I was thinking of. The Traffic black has a slight bluey/grey hue to it, which will look quite nice I reckon. The black/ carbon should also contrast nicely with the White Aluminium
