Condensation everywhere!!

I have just installed the Prometeia Mach II GT on my new system and see that condensation is everywhere around the Mach II evap. Condensation around the evaporator itself, on the electronic components surround the socket area. Even on the RAMs which I thought is far away. When I check the back where the heating plate is, there's water in one part outside the metal plate. The thermal bus seems fine because I don't see condensation upto the evap part. The motherboard I use is ASUS P5WD2-Premium

I apply sealtring as instructed, and even some more. What is wrong?
 
You mean the two screw holes on the evap? will that be the reason why it condensate everywhere? I did not put some over those two holes
 
if theres water on the metal plate on the back, sounds like the seal could be bad, or the heater element isnt plugged in/isnt working. The metal plate should be quite warm to the touch.
 
Sounds like the heater elements to me - feel the top of the evap and back element as they should both be warm; not cold! :)

If it is them it's probably a connection issue, or worse case: controller board/ flash...
 
Yep either the heaters aren't working or you don't have an air tight seal.Be sure to thoroughly dry that p5wd2-p before attempting to run it up again.

So the heat in the back should also transfer to the black outer edge of the evap? when I touch the evap it's cold all around.

About the motherboard, it starts up, fan running for 1~2 seconds then shut down again. I call Asus and they say P5WD2 does not recognize the Intel 930 CPU and tell me to send the BIOS back to them for an updated version. Does anyone has this problem also?

I was wondering if it is the condensation that make the MB shut down after 1~2 sec.
 
Ok it may already be too late,but you must dry that board out,bung it in the oven for a few hours or in the airing cupboard overnight.Once it is dry,try it on a heatsink and fan and post back here with results.If i remember right,it is possible your bios is too old to support 9xx series,although that seems unlikely.If this is the case you will need an older 775 cpu such as 5xx,6xx,8xx to flash up to newer bios,or you can hot flash it in a motherboard with the same bios chip,or you can do as asus suggest,or you can send the bios chip to me and i'll do it.
 
The p5 series do support the 9xx series as that's what I run. 930 on P5WD2 board, as thickie recommended them to me :)

I take your suggestion and replace the prometeia with stock heatsink and fan. To my suprise it does boot up. However when I went to the BIOS setup and check the CPU temp it was 109 degree C. Took the CPU out and it still smell good (no smoke or weird smell, etc ). Should I get a new chip?

Anyway I will go and get some new artic silver today.

the mobo are probaly reading the temps wrong, i know my mates one goes between -50*C and +150*C and thats with an arctic 64!
 
If you're really conceerned about the actual chip temperature, you may want to stick your own probe in there :)

(Don't use the AS5 with the phase)
 
When you fitted the heatsink and fan,did you have thermal paste applied ?.No i don't think you will need a new cpu,i have had them hotter than 109c and they have been ok.Apply new thermal paste and recheck temps in bios still on the heatsink and fan.No point moving to phase till its fine on air.
 
I gave another call to ASUS and the tech handling the phone say it shut down in 1~2 sec is because my CPU is overheating! (lol). Is it possible that the P5WD2-P won't recognize the extreme cold temp - a bug or glitch in the firmware?
 
Nah, I think that a few people on here run them with phase and haven't had this problem...

Sounds like bad contact to me.
 
I put it back to use heatsink/fan and got a stable 49~50 degree C If I plug in the Prometeia same thing happen again. I don't think it's the bad contact either because I check the copper plate on Prometeia and the CPU surface and the Artic Silver is evenly spread on them.
 
AS5 is BAD on phase - I emailed Arctic Silver about it and they told me that it's best to use their Ceramique paste.
