Asus Surge Protection

I built my PC around 9 months ago. All has been fine until yesterday when, upon launching awesomenauts (a not at all intensive game), I got a random restart. When the PC restarted I was greeted with the following message "Asus Power Surge Protection triggered to protect the system from a bad PSU" (or words to that effect).

After searching the internet for a solution, I am not sure what to do (as many people recommend different 'solutions'). Many people suggest turning off this feature, but I am hesitant to because there may actually be a power surge issue.

Earlier today, it did it again (while playing Dead Rising 2). I am really not sure what to do. I chose to post here as the I find the OC3D community very helpful! :)

(Also: I have found that the faceplate of the socket I am using sometimes gets stuck on - literally, the switch gets stuck on. There shouldn't be an issue with the electrics however, as the house was only built in 2011.

I also live in England where power surges are apparently 'very rare'. All hardware is still within guarantee.)

PC Specs:
TX 650 PSU (This should surely have enough power for this rig?!)
Sabertooth z77
i5-3570k (4.1 Ghz Turbo)
16GB Corsair Vengence RAM
HD 4850

Are you using a surge protector or is your pc connected directly to the socket on the wall?

Originally (yesterday), I had the rig connected to an extender with a surge protector. I removed it as it was very old and I thought it could be the issue. Buying a new surge protector is now on the top of my priority list. (Currently, its straight in the wall)

If youre that worried buy a UPS - my home server and Orca are both on them and for the features that they provide and the peace of mind considering the server has 1K of HDD's in and Orca is priceless worth every penny

I reckon I'll invest in one, that should put pay to any of my concerns. I may have to wait a little longer for a GPU upgrade now ^_^

Great! It appears that it was purely an issue with the electrics (It works fine in any other room). Looks like I'll have to get a sparky on it!

Surge protectors are useless in almost all cases. Unless you are planning on spending upwards to a thousand dollars on one, the little power strips wont stop anything. The reason is, if you live in a modern structure it should have surge protection in the structure that is FAR better than any sub $300 surge protector will offer. That being said, if you live in a modern structure with proper protection, if you get a power surge and it gets passed the buildings protection. Their is no way in hell a sub $300 protector is going to stop it.
