I had the power supply running in the rig before I did the upgrade so I know that it is all working. It is a 1200 watt nova-tech power supply that is based of a seasonic one so I don't think that is the issues.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Checking just a cpu with 1200w's maybe the problem psu's are ment to have a load on them and just a cpu probably isn't touching it psu's generally shut down when there isent a sufficient load applied to them.
Hence psu's had to change for haswell low power states as thay where shuting down due to very low loads.

I have Never heard that in my life but I could be wrong.
EDIT: I have herd of the haswell states. But the 3960x Draws quite a lot of power.

Not on a 1200w psu it dosent :p try throwing on the video card aswell

Haha funny you say that I have tried my 760 card. (Normally run SLI) and the issue remains but some people say that the 760 wont post without a bios upgrade. So if that is the issue I might be stuck. I have tried different ram but a friend told me that he had issues with ram and he could only get one kit to work to before he could update the bios so I am going to borrow some ram off a friend in a little bit.

Then either the CPU or board are Donald Ducked.

Are they new?

Check the pins in the socket.

Yeah I have :( I think my CPU or bored is dead too :( I cant find a X79 Mobo to test my cpu in. I bought the cpu Open Box From CCL Computers. And the mobo was a refurb.
Thanks everyone for your help once again.

The board should be under warranty, sort that first. It will cost you about £15 though as Gigabyte no longer honour shipping either way, IMO making them as expensive as EVGA and MSI. However it may be worth it.

Unless that CPU has been under LN2 then it's highly doubtful it's dead. I've only ever killed the cache on a CPU but it still worked after I just had to disable the cache (late 90s).

Good and bad news.

UPDATE
I went to the otherside of the country and back to pickup a asus rampage IV extream. That revealed that my CPU is fine :D but my mobo is dead :( . so I will keep the asus bord as its quite a upgrade.thanks everyone for your help .

the RIVE is by far and away the most superb X79 motherboard. I know the Black is better but at the price it cost new it's not a contender IMO. I've never ever been able to overclock a CPU so easily and quickly than when I had my RIVE. I looked for an Asus guide and twenty seconds later my CPU was stomping 4.7ghz.

My MSI BBXPII took me bloody hours and was constantly whining that the VRMs were too hot. In the end it failed, I really don't miss it.

I now have a new problem :( Just my luck.
I could not get windows to install. (10 or 7) I just kept getting a i BSOD. after hours of trouble shooting I got windows to install after turning off all the cpu features. Turning them back on if I turn on speed step or turbo then it bsods. Any ideas? I also then only get a cinnebench score of 850CB in r15.

I will love anyone Forever who can help me fix this :)

Have you tried dropping you memory to 1333 and up its volts to 1.65 for testing, I smell a memory issue !

Set bios to default settings, Set your memory to XMP, drop speed to 1333 and up its volts to 1.65, let me know what happens and post your BSOD error.

Thanks for the suggestion I will try that later. I have to go out now for a few hours :)

Got those memory settings to work but I am still getting bsod or hangs on windows loading or somtimes just a restart.
Seem even with XMP sometimes I get overclocking failed.

XMP can fail if your CPU can not handle the ram speed - youve got an enthusiast hands on rig.

So just take things one step at a time and get comfy so you learn you system, this is what the rest of us here actually call the best bit!

Clear your bios properly and start from scratch. Keep smashing settings in and out without knowing what they are can cause totally different issues and you dont know whats failing and whats not.

Set your ram to 1600 with 9-9-9-24 timings at what ever the rated voltage is for your sticks - set the vcore to 1.2v manual and then start from there. (auto means sfa)

What hard drive do you have connected, maybe you should try another?

Also my next step would be to -

- Bios to default (f5 or whatever it is in your bios)
- F10 and reboot back into the bios
- Check Cpu temps are ok
- Check memory is @ correct timings, XMP should do the trick then drop speed to 1333.
- Create a UBCD http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ on usb stick
- Reboot into a UBCD
- Run a memtest from the list of apps

Also I would try to install ubuntu to see if this is stable How to Benchmark Your Linux System: 3 Open-Source Benchmarking Tools
