Hello Everyone. :)
I have just bought a 3960X and a gigabyte GA-X79 UP4 rev 1.1

The build wont post and goes into a infinite reboot loop.
I have tried different GPUS and Ram in all different slots

here is a video off the issue.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

First off can you post a picture of the set up now dude? Have you cleared the BIOS?

Sometimes changing hardware too much can make matters worse btw

First thanks for the reply I will get a picture up now. It is running on top the mobo box atm.
I have it plugged just into the power supply CPU and ram and a old GPU.

Why do you point the camera at the screen at the end when it's not even connected to the monitor?

How far through does it get when the gpu is plugged in.

Its feeling like something CPU based to me

Might want to try refitting it and checking all of the power cables etc

The amd cooler that is on the cpu is just so i can see it post. (not for long term use lol)
I have a h80i I will be using when the setup is confirmed to work. I also get no beeps with a pc speaker plugged in.

OK thanks :) I have checked all the connections and remounted the cpu. The issue is getting hold of another motherboard so that i can test if its the CPU or the mobo.
The CPU was a open box from CCL Computers.

Have you bodged that cpu cooler to fit the intel socket?

Just placed on there with compound. It was the same when i had the h80 installed in the begging.

I think I am going to have to source another x79 mobo from somewhere and see if its is the CPU or mobo that is dead. Thankyou everyone for your time and your help.

How hot does the CPU get when you've just sat it on top?

I have not ran it without a heat sync on. I have a inferred temp gauge. Should I run it without a heat sync for a second and see if it gets hot?

No lol. I just wondered how hot it's getting with a heat sink just resting, considering they are normally tied down with some pressure.

Does not seem to be getting hot then again it does not really stay on long enough to generate enough heat to feel through the heat sync.

Was just curious if on the first boot it reached too high temps and killed it. Though I'm not qualified to talk about thermodynamics :P

I had the same issue when it was under the H80 if that cant stop it overheating i don't think i have any hope lol. So I don't think that it is a thermal cutout occurring.

Ah, didn't realise you tried it with the H80 first.
