Worth waiting for Broadwell?

Hello!

My current system while being old and ugly still has some decent performance left and it seems that I managed to get it stable again after I had a few problems with my overclocks. Now I'm currently saving money for a new system and I'm wondering if it's worth aiming at a broadwell system even if I had the money earlier than its release.
I lately heard in some tech podcast (I think it was in the wan show? Not sure, though) that Intel actually addressed the heat problems with Maxwell and are aiming to do better with Broadwell. Also the 1150 socket will not be utilized beyond Maxwell CPUs.
With that in mind - would you still recommend a Maxwell system or would you wait for Broadwell to come out?
I'm a gamer and my current system still gets the job done although it caughs quite a bit by now. And the looks are frankly a disgrace for any hardware enthusiast but that's another story. :o

My current system:
Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.7Ghz
Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6
6GB DDR2 Ram @ 800Mhz
MSI GTX760 Gaming
Corsair CX600m

Edit: I had a small brainfart there - I meant Haswell, not Maxwell.

Hi

I believe you meant to say Haswell processor

Hi

Here is my response. I have been working with/on computers for 30 years. There is always something new coming, so if you get in the wait mindset you always end up waiting for the Next BIG Thing. My thinking is if I have a need and the money, buy it and get moving now. I am not big on waiting as the money gets spent and or there is even newer coming so longer wait.

It just does not work for me.

+1

You only buy something if you have a job for it to do.

If you have a need now, it is time to go shopping.

I guess I'll let my system decide - if it stays alive for another year I'll go for a Broadwell, if it dies before Broadwell comes out I'll go for Haswell. My problem with Haswell right now is heat output, though and I'm a sucker for silence which will propably be much easier and cheaper to achieve with a CPU which generally runs cooler.

cant you go for silence with an after market cooler? or you after higher overclocks than 4.3/ 4.4 Ghz

and im happy with 1155 there are still a good few mobos for cheap out there and some i7k and i5k chips out there which might save you a penny or too:) and same for amd chips im sure :)

otherwise if you wanted the latest tech then just save up every month and use your system till the end :)

I gonna upgrade the whole mainboard/CPU/RAM combination and since my system still holds up performance wise I might as well. It's not pretty but it works.

The 1155 is not an option here in germany by the way - that stuff is just as expensive as the 1150s in every aspect.

Hmm I could get a haswell system with an i5 4670k, an MSI Z87m G43 mobo and 2133Mhz G.Skill memory for 30bugs off which would make it 336€. It's exactly a 100bugs over my current budget. While it's a compelling offer I don't think it's worth overdrawing my account, though.
