why is it going so slow

yea avg free but i had that before windows decided to take ages to log on windows is faster logging on after i OC the cpu to 3.8Ghz and the mem to 1704 but the sidebar still takes an additional 30 secs to appear, when i was OC the cpu the mem went up aswell and around 1800-1900 the sidebar came up instantly any ideas please.

Give it a go, don't use it to stop programs at start up, but you can easily see the things which take up time at boot. Then manually disable the cr*p you don't need through the software itself.

i havnt installed any updates since installation and last time i did it made my pc run very slow doubled the log on speed is this normal and should i update or can i leave it?

I installed the same version on 2 pcs and my latest pc had the problem. Tried the updates etc but still didn't fix it so updated to SP1 and it was fixed
