Win 10 - First Impressions.

I do find it funny how they called it Edge, IE11's identifier was already Edge :S

I do wonder if it's actually a decent standards compliant browser or not yet...

well.. you could test it....
Edge=IE MS just wanted to drop a "bad name"

(i actually loved IE11 for specific reasons)

I've been using edge all day and not had any problems with it, my only complaint is I had to enable the Home button and a few other bits and setting the home page wasn't as simple.

I may be odd but I have set the start menu to full screen so it's much like metro (but I liked 8.1)

I have had no problems with drivers or crashes so far and only the auto-update to 10 didn't work so did it from usb it's been a happy and easy upgrade

you have to wonder why cortana wants such an excessively sensitive mic. The mic i use for team speak is perfectly adequate, can pick up the munchkin counting and so on in her bedroom, and yet for the cortana mic setup it barely registers in the green even with my voice raised to ridiculous lvls.
I personally dont like that as it must be set up to catch any old word you may say in passing to some one else, I.E you mention to the wife you have a head ache, and then you get suggested adverts for asprin even though you never asked cortana anything about it.

I have installed windows 10 on my ssd, I have selected the 64x file

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

However when I open properties from my computer it says it is a 32 bit, and only uses 3,5 gb ram:confused:

mine did the update. and it says it is x64 in the properies.. so something is wrong for sure..
Sorry i cant help more than that.
Traditionally you could only upgrade a x64 os to a x64 os So its kind of strange that you are in this situation unless your old os was x86 or you did a clean install.

My first impressions were quite negative due to repeated failed automatic installations (3 failed attempts). Then I used the download and install tool and finally succeeded to upgrade my win7 ultimate to win10 pro.
Messed up my NVidia drivers, had to uninstall drivers and GeForce experience and reinstall to fix the issue! Also lost my screen drivers!
Video codecs were also messed up and had to uninstall/reinstall... fixed! Without the codecs mkv files didn't play correctly (no sound and slow frame rate). Was surprised as it was said win10 was handling mkv natively!?
Asus GPU Tweak not working correctly anymore... not sure it is win10 related though as I noticed people saying that the latest version isn't properly working on win7 or win8 either.
Regarding the speed, I first thought it was slightly slower to start than win7, but after a couple of restarts, this feeling disappeared and it seems on par if not a little faster than win7.
My GTX670 SLI setup seems to work fine both in windows and in games, no significant changes in gameplay or frame rate so far in Crysis 3 or Witcher 3.
Overall its a bit confusing at first to naviguate through the new menu and setting, I have to say it took me a while to find where the screensaver settings were located!
After tweaking my status bar and start menu, I am very satisfied with the look and feel, sharp, clean and clear of the new desktop.
All my apps (office 2013, photoshop, etc... and professional apps) are working without issue :)
So after my first but short lasting negative thoughts I have to admit that I like the new win10 and it feels quite stable and reliable OS!

all up and running fine here on my main rig with nvidia gpu but on my sons rig which uses an a8 apu via amd and having nothing but issues.

games are working but video playback i.e imbedded videos which use media player etc are not just a green screen.
youtube is working though its only when he tried to watch his cartoon shows from a webpage its not.
ive done a clean install of drivers even trouble shooted other things i.e flash player etc just strange that it works fine on my rig but not on his...

edit: just got told to try and get the video codek packages gonna try will post back :D

edit 2 : codecs did not work :( got a feeling its amd driver related could also be network/accelerated graphics options ill try a few tweeks once my son gets back off his pc :-/

edit 3 : ok for those that have an apu based system and get the flashplayer update for windows 10 you have to right click on a video you are playing back online from say netflix/hulu/amazon prime the latter is what my son was trying to use... and well you right click and go to settings and untick use hardware acceleration.. this fixed all the video playback issues he was having...

Huge issues with using a guitar in the line in for software. Until they fix the audio overlap ive gone back to win8.1.

Doesn't matter what Realtek drivers you use, they all have the same problem. Everything else about it is promising, but the audio issue is a big gamebreaker for me right now.

I've not used it extensively, but my experience has been pretty good so far, bar a few minor issues.

Upon initial installation I was only able to use one monitor and the default audio device was incorrect.

~snip~

Fifth, there appears to be some kind of stutter when navigating the settings and filesystem, could just be me but there is definitely something not quite right, like misaligned fonts and icon suddenly jumping into position when you open a window.

~snip~

All good so far for me too. Apart from the issue of the stuttering when moving between hard drives and files/folders.

One little annoyance is that i cant fully uninstall the little MS default programs. Ive tried uninstalling from the start menu and on the apps settings itself but they seem to just come back.

After some time with W10 on my PC and installing/setting up other devices for it. I'm pretty darn impressed. Haven't really had to teach someone how to use it like I did when W8 first came out. They took little longer to get used to it after W7 but eventually they all got it and are impressed with themselves. People I have upgraded devices for are nontechy's so it's a thumbs up for MS so far in my experience. I actually found upgrading to it was harder than actually using it tbh

So initial expression time.

I had some issues where my clean windows install wouldnt activate, so i quickly reinstalled windows 7 for a day or 2, i thought my license was expired untill i learned otherwise how upgraded windows behaves with activation, i would call this a complete failure on my end to not research how things work, but the upgrade window should have given a small explanation telling us what will happen with the previous license upon upgrading.

Other than that, this windows feels really really slick and smooth so far, i did read about all the privacy stuff but it does not bother me in the slightest, i just turned all the privacy settings to off and did not login with my outlook account, i think that should be enough.

My games run fine, thankfully the windows 8.1 driver for my Asus Xonar xense card work great to so i think i can safely call this the smoothest windows launch ive ever seen. I do have a gripe with the limited settings window, it sort of feels ms cut of the meat of the control panel and just sliced it into easy bites, which is a bit of a shame, but it doesnt affect my general use so far, but for more advanced tweaking it might be a problem.

Just a quick question. What is your Win10 licence linked to? Your motherboard or what? I'm asking because I want to do a fresh install and I'm not sure if its liked to my Microsoft account, because I plan to use a different account.
