Win 10 - First Impressions.

I have terrible BSOD problems and I can't even use my keyboard to get into safe-mode...
Win10 boots correctly whenever it wants, I don't blame microsoft though.. Supporting LGA775 things (that are end of support by intel) isn't something that 'HAS TO BE DONE' imediately

download the right version and then just skip waiting. Choose the first option and it will download and install W10. You choose to keep everything or clean install(sort of) at the end before you upgrade.

Loving it so far - initial response.
  • Takes 2 seconds to get rid of the useless tiles on the start menu.
  • Did customised install so was able to disable any of that speech recognition crap.
  • The new activity center is great for laptops.
  • Edge is surprisingly slick - haven't tested lots of sites yet though.
  • Very fast and responsive.

Will withhold proper judgement until I've used it for a month or so.

For those using onboard audio it fuffs up line in for guitars. It seems to be running two audio sources overlapping so you get a doubled, static sound in things like rocksmith, guitar rig, or any native instruments program.

This is from an upgrade though. I havent tried the fresh install yet.

the fix is to uninstall realtek drivers but windows keeps reinstalling them.

Runs nicely on my newer Laptop (i5, 8gb ram, 240gb ssd). 7 was never that much of an issue but an already speedy laptop feels that much faster with 10. Its just like 8.1 with a startbar. Not overly blown away yet. I'd love to run it on my older laptop (core 2 duo) but it seems that those particular thinkpads are having issues with drivers on it.

I just read an article about the EULA. No, thank you very much. I'll stick with Windows 8.1 for a while.

"Microsoft collects information about you, your devices, applications and networks, and your use of those devices, applications and networks. Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data; device configuration and sensor data; and application usage."

It looks like a great OS, but I don't like being spied on.

EDIT: I just saw how old that article was. Please don't mind this comment.

Cheeky sods, although we're getting spied on all the time anyway, one extra thing shouldn't make a difference. Surely the EULA is about the same for 8/.1?

Doesn't the EULA of nearly any software say that as well anyway? There's usually a manual opt-out option by unchecking a box during the installation in the form of "Do you want to help our company by sending anonymous data for improvement of our software?".

Yeah true.

I never read them or the terms and conditions, nobody got time for that! :D

Better switch over to Linux then ;)

I would, but Linux doesn't support a lot of the applications I need to use with my college course ;)

Aye, I bet it's mostly the same. Although this EULA was for the Technical Preview, so I guess it was tofind and tackle bugs and other software-related problems.

All that can be turned off in the setup.
Also if you have a Google or Facebook account, you don't have any privacy left

I got Windows 10 set up but i have a issue, 1. I can't get Windows 10 to Active.

I guess i have actived Windows 7 pro to many times but it's only had two motherboards.

I'm am liking Windows 10 so far, I think i need to do some tweaking.

So far so good, I spent all day yesterday trying the ISO, with no joy, so I went with the direct download this morning, and it worked like a charm, with the only problem being my eyefinity group was a pig to set up, but I got there in the end, and I want to try Cortana, but my mic isn't compatible, so mo chance there.

I think I was one of the few, that actually liked windows 8 / 8.1, from the begining, so as far as I've seen, 10 is only an improvement.

were would I find Project Spartan, I can't find it anywhere, it's not on the smart tiles, or in the all apps menu ?
