why comptuer case designers?

why is it that there are so many cases that dont offer single drive HDD bays? there arent many people who are using 3 mechanical drives much less six (outside of jury-rigged NAS's) so why are they still making this design choice in an age of computer cases full of ssd mounts?

Probably because the majority of people are not just running a single ssd or a couple of ssd's in there pc.

I have 2 Corsair ssd's, 1 Seagate HDD and 1 Samsung HDD.

I know people who still run there pc's with more than 6 HDD's in there pc's.

ive seen only a couple cases implement what i think is the best way to setup modular hard drive cages which is a 3xhdd, 2xhdd, and 1xhdd. it should be at least popular in watercooling cases so you dont lose all of your mechanical drive cages if you want to mount multiple radiators.

The vast majority of case manufacturers these days offer you options, alternative mounting options, removable cages ect ect. You only have to look at the H440 or the Air 540 to see the progress. But at the end of the day if you want only 1 HDD mount just get the dremel out and mod away, or spend some REAL money and buy a custom case i.e Caselabs or Parvum systems. Most of us argue why do manufacturers still give us ODD bays and why are they not removable...

My old enermax case had side mounted 3.5' HDD bits which were completely removable and a small 2 slot mount on the floor of the case (also removable).

As a product designer and producer I can tell you that during the design phase there are a lot of decisions that get made to widen the products appeal.

If I was designing a computer case (my company doesn't but bare with me) and I then looked at the market of who would buy it why would I restrict it to people who only have and only ever will need a single internal drive?

By supplying 2 to 4 bays it widens the appeal and means I can make more money as I will sell more units.

The only company that can get away with this approach is Apple. If you look at the Mac Pro it only has a single SSD stick. You cannot stick anything else inside that chassis. They can get away with that but they are already making billions of dollars and have enough clout to force their customers to buy external drives.

The rest of us making new products cannot make those kind of cuts and need to always be thinking about ways to get the product in the most amount of customer hands and that is going to mean you'll get extra features you don't particularly need.

When you can get a 4TB SSD for the same price as a 4TB HDD then there will be less HDD bays in cases ;)
