I need to get back into the fold... I think I need to change electricity supplier - my current one has just increased rates by 20%.
Plus, mining is much more difficult than folding so it's only a matter of time before people switch. Mining can be pretty back breaking work and has all sorts of negative health effects like respiratory issues. Folding can be done indoors while seated and is much easier on the body. I'll continue to fold in the comfort of my own home rather than try mining and get injured or worse. Not to mention, mining is extremely dirty work and would ruin all my clothes!
Holy crap, 20%! That's quite a jump. What's their rationale for increasing rates so much?
Thought I'd have a bit of fun after reading this post https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/6rw8wj/this_whole_time_i_thought_you_guys_were_talking/This post man... love it.

I'll be shutting down at some point in the next 24-36 hours to prepare for Irma. If it hits Miami, no telling how long I'll be without power but I will get back up when I can![]()
We are down to 10 active folders ATM, where did you all go?![]()
Sad to see the numbers dwindling. I do think mining has taken a lot of the focus away from projects like F@H and Seti. It's pretty damn tempting to let your GPU crunch away plus get paid for it, if you catch it at the right time. I don't know how much it's affected our team, but I'd love to see some people come back.
We always see numbers go down in summertime. Maybe they will pick up again when things cool off?

Likewise, I had to stop folding a few years back as I was getting stick for leaving the pc on folding whilst at work and the bills were bad enough back then. These rate increases haven't helped particularly as I have an old phenom II system that runs 24/7 as a storage server. (undervolted obviously) Whilst I could use it to fold, it would be pretty naff considering the dinky quadro nvs 310 in it and the age of the other hardware.Same here, my energy bills are ridiculous.

I reckon mine is pretty greedy once you factor in the 7x enterprise class disks, SAS expander and megaraid hba.Yeah that's why I have invested in a NAS, because leaving a system on 24/7 wasn't helping the energy bills. Only issue is I cant fold on it but at least I can access it from anywhere at anytime without it using that much electricity.
If you don't mind me asking where in South Wales are you?
Damn dude, keep safe!
As the previous post said, stay safe dude

Stay safe and batten down those hatches we're all praying for you overseas.
Good luck and stay safe. Get as far north as possible. I've seen video footage of Harvey and that was bad enough. So really get far far north. Praying for you from Cali.
I'm back![]()
No damage to the house at all! There's lots of tree damage and I just got power back yesterday, but other than that I think we got very lucky.
Funny about the pool float! I heard Tampa fared pretty well...the Keys and Jacksonville got hit pretty hard though.
