But the last 4 are hardly even around?

I also don't really know anyone who's said anything bad about the last two... The results for DLSS are impossible to argue against, which relies on ML/DL.

It's not true at all. Some are not gimmicks, but not anywhere near all are not.. And besides, some of them were not even expensive.

Whoever wrote that list needs to get over themselves tbh.

You guys are missing the point. None of them are true really... its what people say when they cant afford it, hence the first line of the picture.

I just took it as a joke as I've heard most if not all of those things being said by people over the years ^_^

Then like I said whoever wrote it needs to have a word with themselves because I could, and can, afford all of it. And I didn't buy plenty of it because it was a gimmick and I bad mouthed about half of it because it was a gimmick.

I bought a VR headset. Played HL Alyx, then it becomes an expensive potato. So it was absolutely a gimmick and will remain so.

VR is not a gimmick. You are just speaking for yourself. I still use mine daily and find it far more enjoyable than running around shooting crap in some battleground FPS. Actually waiting on a Varjo Aero which should hopefully come soon.

Anyway, the humor in it seems lost on you so I will just move on :)

It depends what you consider a gimmick. Remember, we all think differently dude. Me? one game wonder = one hit wonder. Nothing else that is essential has happened on VR and from the look of it it's pretty much done. I don't know of any big titles coming for it and nor have I heard about any. Just facebook selling portions of fake land for people go live in.

However, as I am here and have 10 minutes spare what I will say is that just like 3D not every one can even see VR. And if that is the case then it is highly likely it will never become mainstream.

BTW the "humor" isn't lost on me. Ironically just two weeks ago Dice and I agreed on what sort of people frequent the OCUK forums, and that list looks just like it was written by one of them. Or a poser, if you will, so it seemed a bit of the H word.

Now I wish I had time to go through the list properly and put my thoughts down on each but I don't.

Busy hands etc.

I can somewhat agree with both of you, sure HLAylx is the best VR game imho but saying that i've around 65 VR games some better than others but far from a gimmick.

It is a shame that there aren't more solid options with VR but one of the other games i've really enjoyed was pistol whip much like beat saber but actually fun for me, when i say solid options i just mean games with more of a budget.

There will be others but the biggest issue is making exclusives for the VR platform it'll kill the market and it needs to stop so people are more likely to jump onto it, that and also most headsets are just expensive got my Rift S at £300 and i'd not have paid more only reason i got it as it was end of cycle clearence.

Bugger it, go on then.

Right first up. 2d gaming was not a gimmick and no one ever called it that. Not ever. In fact, calling it 2d gaming is a millennial saying so it is clear who wrote this list. Some spoiled little git more than likely.

VGA was not a gimmick either. It was a whole technology. So whoever wrote that again, clearly does not understand. It was a way of displaying a signal from a PC, and the monitor on the end of it. A proper invention. That said, it was replaced almost year on year until we got to SVGA where it stalled for a really long time.

Graphics cards are not a gimmick and never EVER were. That is a really, really dumb statement to make, as without them you would see F all on your screen. There was no onboard for many decades, so once again whoever wrote this is clearly very stupid.

Anti aliasing 2001? are they joking? the N64 used it in 1996 FFS. And again, gimmick? well, given every sodding game since the PC started using it uses it I would say not. And no one ever called it that either FFS. It was a ground breaking invention.

Online gaming is a gimmick. FFS really?. What this has to do with money is beyond me, as a monthly online gaming sub cost way less than what people spend on TV but whatever. But again, gimmick? no. A crack pipe and fantastic way to lose your time? totally. Again though, pretty much every game uses it now so however was it ever a gimmick? someone needs to look in the dictionary to see what a gimmick is.

2004. Physics in games is a gimmick. Ah, so now we are getting closer to the truth. Gimmick? absolutely not. Something to cut off and charge people too much money for when you can do it without a £120 card there are only two games for? So again, it was nothing more than just a sales strategy. See also most of these, Gsync, yada ya.

Ambient occlusion tessellation and the rest? again, were used to sell people s**t whilst giving them very little. Only, once the sales pitches were over that was when we started seeing it.

1440p is a gimmick. Erm no, it's a way of life.

4k is a gimmick. Nope, yet another sales pitch so that manus can keep increasing the prices of their GPUs. Hello? Jen? is that you? did you write this?

VR is a gimmick. I would not go that far, but I would certainly call it a fad. Just like a lot of the crap we have been sold on over the years. That usually ends up gathering a lot of dust because it is a pain in the ass.

Ray tracing. Not a gimmick, but again a way to sell you something you don't really need and crank the prices of GPUs through the roof turning them into poser items just like the belmet who wrote this list enjoys.

Machine learning. Again, totally not needed for gaming and useful for cars and other technology. Just depends how they are selling it to you this week.

AI. A good way to replace people and lose more jobs.

To show that it is not funny. At all.

If we analysed your posts in this thread this much you'd get a little irked as there's lots you've posted that I didn't find funny but that's ok as we all have different humour, You didn't find it funny and that's ok but it doesn't need a break down as to why you didn't find it funny.

Alien I like you I really do but sometimes you need to take your own sage advice that you have in your signature.
