So Watch Dogs' PC requirements were announced recently and boy are they interesting:

list from here
Base Specification
Operating System: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1), or Windows 8
Note that we only support 64 bit OSs
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM Dual Layer
Hard Drive Space: 20GB
Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card with Latest Drivers
Internet: Broadband connection and service required for multiplayer mode
Minimum Specification
GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM
CPU: Quad core
RAM: 4GB
Recommended Specification
GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 2GB Video RAM
CPU: Eight core
RAM: 8GB
Ultra Specification
GPU: Latest DirectX 11 graphics card with 2GB Video RAM or more
CPU: Latest Eight core or more
RAM: 8GB or more

No dual cores supported but I presume judging by the specs taken from the Ubisoft page (before it was taken down, raw text taken is here ) it counts non physical cores as cores.

So what do you guys think? I thought it seems remarkably undemanding in terms of graphics.

Requirements*? :o

Anyway, is this going to be a Never Settle title as well, seeing as AMD are the only ones who make 8-cores which are what they recommend? Do they factor in the Hyperthreading of an i7? Or do they realise that an Intel Quad Core is about as quick as an AMD Octa Core?

What also caught my eyes is that the Recommend and Ultra requirements are basically the same... They just added 'or more'.

Good to see that this game uses some horsepower though. Unfortunate for those with budget PCs but it does show that things are going into the right direction graphically (assuming this is why you need this hardware and not cause it's a poorly made game).

This game seems highly cpu bound. 8 cores or more? Good thing I bought an i7 instead of an i5. If new games go that path the Hyperthreading will start to make sense in a gaming rig.

Changed it to requirements xD, not my finest moment.
It is very odd that it is cpu intensive imo.

ubisoft have partnered with Nvidia for watchdogs and black flag at least and maybe more

Odd for them to say you need 8 cores then. Would've been better off saying
- Intel Core i7
or
- Quad Core Intel/ 8 Core AMD

But that's just my opinion :)

Can't wait :p specs look pretty beefy for once, i thought it looked pretty good (graphics wise) from the trailers i saw (especially the one in the rain at night, loved the reflections on that one) :p

Edit: Apparently specs are going to lower then these according to the tech director (https://twitter.com/SebViard/status/385815285116063744 , its in french but it basicly just says its going to lower then the specs that got leaked)

Assasins creed IV: black flag specs were also leaked at the same time btw

Can't wait for this game, its great that it can support so many cpu cores, my 1090t should do me grand.

only now have just noticed the "only support 64-bit OS" part, I'm surprised to see the minimum requirements of ram being so high.

I suppose this is due to the larger amounts of ram available on the next gen consoles.

to be completely honest, it's about damn time!! It's nice to FINALLY see games utilize what's actually available to them instead of bowling for the lowest common denominator.

BF4 lapping up CPU cores and now games lapping up RAM, I say bring it on it's not before time!!

totally agree, its great to see this happening, its about time games utilise what the pc has to offer. Hopefully there will be a continued march of progress here.

with next gen console almost here this will be a great time for pc, usage of more ram, high resolution textures, better usage of more cpu cores.

^^^ And best of all better games. Without being limited Devs can now far more easily make better games for all 3 systems. Being less limited will help in far more many ways than we realize. Which is about time lol

I'm really hoping this takes us back out of this rebadge and minimum performance step age with graphics cards as well. It would be nice to get to a point where performance is 75~100% better than previous generations again.

It's about freaking time things started to progress again instead of stagnating for 10 fuarking years while consoles milk the cash-cow. While I appreciate that it's probably going to happen again, at least we're on the right path again for as short a time as it will be.

VIV-LE PC!

when we move away from this multi-generation release period for multi-platform games we will definitely see a lot of creativity from developers, the new consoles have 16x the amount of ram than the previous generation (actually about 10x when considering about 3gb on each console is for OS, still a GIANT increase).

Just imagine what can be done with that much more ram, then there is the additional cpu and gpu power to consider. This will do more than just make better graphics.

it will also be nice for games not to have stupid cpu bottlenecks on PCs when you definitely should have enough power and games not utilising your additional ram when it really should. (skyrim being a good example for both)

PS4 hasn't been confirmed to take up 3gb of ram.. Either way it's still far more than the Xbone bandwidth wise. In the end it's still exactly what we need.

CPU as i would expect are quite for the specs listed. With such an open world game and the crowd around you interacting and all being able to interact with requires a lot of processing, so I saw this coming but they are without a doubt much higher than what most of the mass consumers have.
