Vega FE vs RX Vega discussion

Going by all available info, The top end Vega will be just about competing with a 1080 at a much lower price point, THAT is awesome.

I didn't watch the Vega video. However, they compared the entire setup which again is dodging the bloody issue and playing cloaks and daggers STILL.

I don't think Vega will be cheap, because of this. For example, the monitors they compared could have been Freesync compared to Gsync and that would be your $300 difference (or whatever it was) there.

No. The rumour is still either $499 or $599. However, that is far too much if we are basically looking at 1070 and 1080 with over 100w more power use.

There will likely be serious gouging at launch too, and inflated prices are a given because of mining ETC.

RRP means nothing. Cheapest I can find is $549 and it's crap. That's just a recommended price, not a set in stone price.

Also, when the prices were rumoured the 1080 was still $599 RRP.

So yeah, don't be expecting cheap. Been through it a hundred times before... HBM2, large die, etc etc.

If AMD "do a Fury X" it will cost exactly the same and you would be crazy to buy it.

Of course before I get slaughtered by the "yay" brigade for being a bit too "nay" I really, truly hope that this won't be the case but I just highly suspect it will, given how much AMD have swerved all of the actual facts.

There cards out of stock on Newegg for 510$
And the price was lowered at 1080ti launch in march.

Don't know the difference of MSRP and RRP. But the rumored price of Vega is the RRP, and then you have to compare it to the RRP of the 1080.
That the marked is f...ed up right now, is another story, and will most likely also affect Vega.

Even at the launch of the 1080 RRP meant diddly squat. Cards were all massively over that RRP and the joke going about was the "clown card". The nasty plastic Galaxy one was £539 IIRC bit you could easily do £750 on a Strix.

MSRP - manufacturer's suggested retail price.
RRP - recommended retail price.

Both the same thing. One is bull, the other one s**t tbh.

I think the RX Vega will compete. I also think it is a stop gap until Navi comes out. AMD learned how to get performance with Ryzen. Navi will bring similar technology over the next year or so, if they are not late.

The only flat out fail in recent memory is the 2900 series when they were trying to get an 8800GTX competitor out the door.

I am only worried about buy an RX Vega and getting left with a Fury type card that will be all but abandoned a year or so after launch.

However by the time that comes out Nvidia will have there next stuff so AMD will be behind still.

Truth. AMD is swapping it's roles it seems. Instead of being a couple generations behind Intel, they're now a couple behind Nvidia. Big whoop, Vega is going to compete with the 1080 which came out a year ago if I remember right.

Maybe AMD can get it together and come out with something like Zen that made AMD competitive in the CPU market again but as it looks right now, how well Vega does will depend on how long it takes Nvidia to get their next gen cards out.
